On January 9, NIO's first batch of 10 V2G charging stations in Shanghai was officially put into operation. In addition to exploring orderly charging and discharging modes in typical scenarios such as parks, office buildings, and shopping malls, NIO and Shanghai Power Grid have taken the lead in piloting orderly charging and discharging in residential communities in Fengxian area. While providing users with a convenient power charging experience, it effectively helps to consume clean energy.

V2G stands for Vehicle-to-Grid, also known as bidirectional inverter charging technology, that is, electric vehicles can not only obtain power from the grid for charging, but also feed the power from the on-board battery back to the grid. Electric vehicles are huge power sponges, and the application of V2G technology can realize the function of distributed mobile energy storage units of electric vehicles, charging when electricity consumption is low, and discharging outward during peak power consumption. In order to achieve green energy consumption, reduce the impact on the external environment, and at the same time can also provide a certain economic return for electric vehicle owners.

Simply put, the battery is fully charged at the trough and the charged energy is reversely fed into the grid at the peak or peak. And because of the difference in electricity prices in different periods, car owners can also get a certain degree of income.

Let's take the NIO 75kWh ET5 model as an example, the owner uses the trough electricity price at night (let's say 0.4 yuan) to fully charge the battery, it costs 30 yuan. When going to work or going out the next day, the vehicle will be parked at the V2G charging station to supply power to the grid in the opposite direction, assuming that the electricity price is 1 yuan at this time, and the power supply is 40 kWh, you can get 40 yuan income.

V2G technology represents the convergence of the future transportation and energy fields, and is a model of harmonious coexistence between technology and the environment. On January 4, 2024, the National Energy Administration, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Administration for Market Regulation and other departments issued the "Implementation Opinions on Strengthening the Integration and Interaction of New Energy Vehicles and Power Grids", which clearly put forward the medium and long-term development goals of vehicle-network interaction, and encouraged the comprehensive promotion of orderly charging applications and V2G mode demonstrations.

Since 2019, NIO has participated in peak shaving and valley filling activities, taking multiple active peak shifting measures to alleviate the pressure on the power grid, and actively piloting V2G orderly charging, which has been deployed in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Qilian Mountain National Park and other places. On October 28, 2023, NIO Energy's vehicle-to-network interaction project was included in the "Shanghai Public Charging Facilities Vehicle-to-Network Interaction Demonstration Project", and NIO is the only car company selected for the project.

As a smart electric vehicle manufacturer, NIO has also been deeply engaged in the energy sector. As of December 31, 2023, NIO has deployed a total of 2,316 battery swap stations and 21,049 charging piles, in addition to 960,000 third-party charging piles. These figures not only reflect NIO's commitment to "make refueling more convenient than refueling", but also support users' confidence in believing in NIO and choosing NIO.

The official operation of the V2G charging station further promotes the consumption of clean energy, reduces the load on the power grid, enriches the experience of electric vehicle owners, and at the same time can obtain certain economic returns, and also make a contribution to the national power security, so as to achieve a win-win situation for all parties.
