In August 1912, Yuan Shikai, the provisional general of China, appointed Zhou Shuren (Lu Xun), Xu Shoushang, and Qian Daosun as section chiefs recommended by the Ministry of Education to be responsible for the development of the national emblem design, which was completed on August 28. The three of them worked together to design the pattern, Qian Daosun drew the legend, and the manual was written by Lu Xun. Later, Cai Yuanpei, who was the president of Peking University at the time, felt that although Peking University was the continuation of the highest university in ancient China in modern times, it did not have a school emblem, which meant that there was no logo of Peking University, and in the second year of his tenure, he asked Lu Xun to design the emblem of Peking University.
