Shanghai Shenhua official news, 52-year-old Russian coach Slutsky as the team's new coach.
Shanghai Shenhua Announcement:
Shanghai Shenhua Football Club has signed a contract with Russian coach Leonid Slutsky, and Slutsky will officially become the head coach of Shanghai Shenhua Football Team from January 1, 2024.
Slutsky was born in Russia on May 4, 1971. He began his coaching career in 2003. In October 2009, Slutsky took over the Russian Premier League powerhouse Moscow** Army, and led the team to the Champions League knockout round for the first time that year, losing to the eventual champion Inter Milan by one goal over two legs in the 1 4 finals. Two years later, Slutsky led the team to a final Champions League group stage away to Inter Milan and successfully qualified from the group. For seven years, Slutsky helped the Army win 3 league championships (16 Russian Cup titles (13 seasons) and 2 Russian Super Cup titles (2013 and 2014), and he was named Russian Coach of the Year three times.
In mid-2015, Slutsky was appointed to succeed Capello as the head coach of the Russian national team, and finally led the Russian team out of adversity and reached the main match of the 2016 European Championship with four wins in four games in the European preliminary round. In the 2017-2019 season, Slutsky also coached Hull City in the Championship and Vitesse in the Eredivisie.
Throughout his coaching career, Slutsky has been an advocate of open and balanced attacking football, and is good at identifying and developing young players. Current Arsenal captain Odegaard, Napoli talent Kvaratskhelia, current England international Bowen and Russian star Golovin have all grown significantly under Slutsky and gradually become first-class players.
Shanghai Shenhua Football Club warmly welcomes Mr. Slutsky and his team to join him, hopes that he will get familiar with the team as soon as possible, build a technical and tactical style of play suitable for Shenhua, and look forward to more young players to further improve with his help and jointly achieve better results for Shenhua in the new season.
