Low temperature and snowfall weather will bring certain safety hazards to travel, so what should we pay attention to when traveling in snow?
In the past week, there has been an increase in the number of patients injured by falls due to snowy travel in hospitals, mainly the elderly, and the most common ones are hip fractures, compression fractures of the spine, followed by fractures of the wrist, humerus, and shoulder joints. Experts said that after the elderly fall, they should first keep calm, conduct a basic physical assessment of themselves, do not rush to stand up at this time, and the people around them should not be in a hurry to lift up and drag the elderly, and decide according to the activities of the elderly's body to avoid secondary injury.
Wu Jingwei, Deputy Chief Physician of the Department of Orthopedics, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University: If the joint movement is okay, and there is no obvious joint deformity, swelling and pain, you can carry out some simple activities and try to see if you can move. If you have noticed obvious joint deformity, swelling, or even some open injuries, there are already wounds, and you have seen the bones exposed, do not move easily. Fractures and dislocations of joints can cause a second injury if they are easily moved or forcibly moved.
Some elderly people do not experience severe pain and significant trauma after a fall, but if the pain does not ease or worsens in subsequent life, experts recommend going to the hospital for examination to rule out the risk of fractures.
Wu Jingwei, Deputy Chief Physician of the Department of Orthopedics, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University: There is a kind of fracture called embedded fracture, which is uncomfortable for patients, but it is not so painful. If you don't go to the hospital, you don't go to the doctor, the fracture will be ignored, and in the process of continuing to walk, it is possible that the fracture that is stable will be displaced, and it will be aggravated. Originally, the fracture could be solved by some minor surgery or external fixation, but if the fracture is not found and the fracture is repeated walking, it may become a major operation.
In addition, I would like to remind everyone that when walking outdoors, we should also pay attention to avoid snow-covered trees and buildings at high places as much as possible to avoid being injured by snow, there are many places that are relatively slippery and easy to slip, it is recommended to wear non-slip shoes, maintain good body balance, do not put your hands in your pockets, although there is no snow on many roads, but there is a thin layer of ice, walk more carefully.
