Recently, TrendForce released the data of the world's top 10 chip design companies in the third quarter of 2023.
According to the data, the revenue of the top 10 chip design companies in the third quarter was as high as 447$400 million, an increase of 178%, a record high.
Obviously, the market is not very good, but the reason why the revenue of chip design companies has increased so much is that smartphones and laptops have begun to enter the peak season of stocking, and the development of AI has led to the acceleration of AI-related chip shipments.
From the perspective of the specific 10 major companies, this time it is completely dominated by China and the United States, with the United States on the list of 6 and China on the list of 4, as shown in the figure below.
The first place is the well-deserved Nvidia, which benefited from the development of AI, which increased by 45 percent from the previous quarter7%, and his family's market revenue accounted for 36 of the top 109%。
The second place is Qualcomm, benefiting from the recovery of the smartphone market, Qualcomm's revenue in the third quarter also increased by 28%。
This is followed by Broadcom, AMD, MediaTek (Taiwan), Marvell (Marvell, USA), Novatek (Taiwan), Realtek (Taiwan), Weir (Chinese mainland), and Cirrus Logic (USA).
From the perspective of growth, among the top 10 manufacturers, two have negative month-on-month growth, namely Novatek and Realtek in Taiwan, China, and the other 8 are all growing positively.
Among these 10 major manufacturers, although Chinese manufacturers account for 4, they actually belong to Chinese mainland manufacturers, and there is only one, that is, Weir shares, an increase of 423%, which is the third growth among the top 10 companies after Nvidia and Cirrus Logic.
Why is Weir's shares growing so fast? The reason is that after Weir acquired OmniVision Technology, it got involved in CMOS chips, and at present, domestic mobile phone manufacturers, such as Huawei, Xiaomi, OV, and Honor, are vigorously supporting domestic CMOS chips, and everyone uses a large number of OmniVision CMOS chips in mobile phones, so Weir's revenue has increased significantly.
In fact, it can be seen from the data in 2022 that in Weir's revenue, image sensor revenue accounts for as much as 69%, which is the revenue of CMOS chips.
Judging from this data, domestic chip companies really need to refuel, after all, seriously speaking, there is only 1 company on the list in the mainland, and 3 in Taiwan, China, we still have a lot of room for improvement.
