Do you remember what was the biggest headache for you when you first started driving? That's right, that's parking and reversing. The storage skills we learned in driving school often find that they don't apply when we drive our own cars. Especially when reversing, the actual environment is completely different from the environment of driving school Xi practice. Many times, we need others to command outside the car, even if we can park the car to the designated position, but the whole process is often ignorant, the next time we encounter the same situation, it is still difficult to reverse smoothly.

So, today I will share a few skills that need to be mastered in actual reversing.

First of all, you need to understand a basic truth: when reversing, we should prioritize adjusting the rear of the car. If the rear of the car is in the right direction, the front of the car will naturally be adjusted. To put it simply, when reversing, hit the steering wheel to the left, and the car will reverse to the left; Hit the steering wheel to the right and the car will fall to the right.

For example, when you see from the left rearview mirror that the butt of the car is close to the left sideline and the front of the car is far from the left sideline, then you need to reverse the car in the right direction, so that you can throw the butt of the car to the right and correct the body. Similarly, if you see from the right rearview mirror that the front of the car is close to the right side line, and the car butt is far from the right side line, it means that the car butt is crooked to the left, and you still need to hit the right direction and throw the car butt to the right to correct the body.

Secondly, due to the large blind spot behind the car, it is a challenge to judge the distance between the parking space and the obstacle. While reversing camera and radar can help solve this problem, we can't rely solely on these electronics, as reversing camera and radar tuning can vary from vehicle to car. It is recommended that you first find a reference, such as the curb of the road, and then try to reverse the car to a distance of only 30 cm from the curb. In the process, observe how your reversing image and radar are displayed, and find the vehicle's reference point at that distance. You can adjust your mirrors to make sure you can see the curb in your normal driving position. For example, if you look at the past and the distance between the bottom of the curb and the front door handle is about 1 cm, then this point can be used as a reference point for reversing in the future, easily reversing the car to a distance of only 30 cm from the obstacle.

Also, be sure to get out of the car before reversing and observe your surroundings, pay attention to whether there are low obstacles behind you, whether there are ditches, and whether other vehicles or pedestrians may enter your reversing area. Plan your reversing route in advance and know what to expect. When reversing in an unfamiliar environment, remember to observe the surrounding environment first, plan the reversing route, and then reverse slowly.

Fourth, when reversing, you must pay attention to both the front and rear, left and right, and don't just stare at the rearview mirror or the reversing image. While reversing, observe if there are vehicles or pedestrians coming in other directions. In the underground garage, a common mistake that novice drivers make is to reverse into the garage and think it's done, but when they continue to reverse, the rearview mirror hits the pillar next to the garage.

Fifth, during reversing, the right foot should be placed on the brake pedal for braking, not on the accelerator. Try to use the idle speed to reverse, if you don't go backwards in a place with a slope, you can lightly step on the accelerator, but once the car moves, you must immediately put your foot back on the brake pedal to prepare for the brake, in case of emergencies, to avoid mistaking the accelerator as a brake to cause a tragedy.

Finally, if you notice that the car is always crooked when reversing long distances, it may be because you keep looking at the left and right rearview mirrors while reversing, constantly adjusting. The correct way to do this is to just stare at one side of the rearview mirror, keep the distance between this side of the car and the roadside obstacles, and occasionally look at the other side. This way, you will be able to reverse out more smoothly.
