Xie Xiang, male, born in October 1981, is from Chenghai, Guangdong. He graduated from the Department of History of Sun Yat-sen University with a bachelor's degree, and entered the Institute of History and Geography of Fudan University to study for a doctorate, and received his doctorate degree in 2009. From 2015 to 2016, he was a visiting scholar at the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University. In 2013, he was selected into the National High-level Talent Program of the Organization Department, in 2014, he was selected as a young cultural talent of the Guangdong Special Support Program, and in 2020, he was selected into the National High-level Talent Program of the Ministry of Education.
He is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of History, a researcher at the University of Chinese Hong Kong-Sun Yat-sen University Historical Anthropology Research Center, a key research base for humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, the secretary-general of the Steering Committee for the Teaching of History in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education, and the vice president and secretary-general of the Guangdong Historical Society.
His main research areas are historical geography, Ming and Qing history, and socio-economic history. He has won the first prize of the National "Rookie Award in History" of the Ministry of Education (2004), the National Outstanding Doctoral Degree ** Nomination Award (2011), the first prize of the Guangdong Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award twice (2011, 2017), the special prize of the Guangdong Education and Teaching Achievement Award (2019), the first "New Historiography Youth Book Award" (2019), the third "Puyin Humanities Academic Award" (2019), the second prize of the 8th Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award of Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education (2020), The 4th Global Chinese Sinology Ceremony "Sinology Rookie Award" (2020) and the 5th Simian Youth Original Award (2022).
Since 2017, he has successively served as the dean of the Department of History, the dean of the School of Liberal Arts, and the dean of the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities of Sun Yat-sen University, and since January 2023, he has been the vice president of Sun Yat-sen University.
