From December 9th to December 24th, "Contemporary Shanghai School Masters - Double Exhibition Series - Zhang Peicheng and Ding She" was held at Liu Haisu Art Museum. Two generations of artists who grew up in Shanghai, Zhang Peicheng and Ding She, have shared the stage to form a dialogue between tradition and innovation, abstraction and figuration.
This is the "third wave" of the series of contemporary Shanghai School Masters Double Exhibition. Previously, the series of exhibitions has launched a double exhibition of Yang Zhengxin and Wang Jieyin, Zhang Leiping and He Xi, which has achieved a good response.
Exhibition viewProfessor Shi Shi, the producer and curator of the exhibition, Dean of the School of Fine Arts of the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, and the Executive Dean of the Institute of Contemporary Ink Art, said that this double exhibition is not only a display of the latest masterpieces of Shanghai artists, but also a comparison of the two narratives of the oriental writing of Ding set abstract symbols and the imagination of Zhang Pei's ** civilization community through the form of a double exhibition, hoping to arouse cross-cultural and cross-media attention.
In the future, more attention will be paid to the changes in exhibition methods and the promotion of mass communication, and the exhibition will be linked with the space operation of the art museum, art education and international art exchanges, so as to try to break the circle and maintain the continuous vitality of Shanghai-style art.

Mr. Zhang Peicheng's works are youthful, he is always like hazy poems and school songs, but he is not weak and lacking in weight. He uses urban scenes as his theme to explore the process of modernity in ink painting.
Zhang Peicheng's workMr. Ding She, born in the 70s, has been exploring the modern abstract expression of Chinese cursive elements. He uses an eclectic variety of media and means for artistic expression, including paintings on paper, acrylic paintings on canvas, mixed media, acrylic digital prints, digital video works, neon tube works, manuscripts, ......Even the scaffolding wires used for the repair of his studio were collected by him and made into works. From his works, we can not only feel the chic and talent of the ancient Chinese grass saints, but also feel the lively rhythm and color of the current era.
Ding set worksZhang Peicheng, who was born in 1948, became famous quite early. He is currently a consultant of the Shanghai Artists Association, a researcher of the China National Academy of Painting, and a national first-class artist. He used to be the director of Liu Haisu Art Museum and the vice chairman of the Shanghai Artists Association.
Zhang Peicheng said, in art, I am restless. At that time, I began to feel bored after painting the folk painting style for more than ten years. Because it's too skilled. Zhang Peicheng bluntly said that he likes the "sense of unknown" when creating.
Regarding the reputation of "Shanghai School Master", Zhang Peicheng said that Mr. Cheng Shifa said that there is no Shanghai School. Shanghai School painters such as Wu Changshuo, Ren Bonian, and Zhao Zhiqian have different artistic styles. But they have one thing in common, which is that they are not conservative. With an open mind, they have carved out their own artistic world in a very open and tolerant land like Shanghai.
Zhang Peicheng's exhibition viewBorn in 1972, Ding Shi graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the People's Liberation Army Academy of Arts, and is now a director of the Chinese Artists Association.
Regarding the works on display, Ding Shi said, I hope that the genres will be richer and the style will be purer. In purity, I present it in black and white. The works on display include linen works, aluminum wire installation works, digital video works, and works made of neon tubes, all of which belong to the "black and white" series.
As an artist who mainly works in the field of abstraction, Ding Shi believes that the aesthetic style of the Oriental is different from that of the Westerners, and the use of lines and dots is not the same when painting abstract paintings. Because our perception of lines is a Xi habit that we formed when we practiced Xi calligraphy since childhood, the influence of the surrounding culture on us will also be deeply ingrained.
Ding set up the exhibition siteSimilar to Zhang Peicheng's dedication to "breaking through himself", Ding Shi strives to "make himself more unfamiliar in creation" every day. "If what you draw today isn't much different from what you painted yesterday," he says, "it doesn't make much sense. He believes that an artist with a spirit of exploration is confronted with something new every day, and the works that come out of this way are meaningful and vital.
