Dubai, United Arab Emirates – UK-based Enso Tyres*** is focused on developing better EV tires, which poses a challenge to mainstream tire manufacturers.

During the COP28 Transport Day at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai, Enso said it would be the first to phase out fossil fuels in the sector by 2030 by decarbonising the entire ** chain, 20 years ahead of most major tire manufacturers' 2050 targets.

"We all know that the planet is facing a climate crisis," said Gunnlaugur Erlendsson, founder and CEO of ENSO, during a panel discussion at Bloombergnef at COP28 titled "Zero-Emission Vehicles: Unlocking the Next Phase of Growth". ”

"The science is clear, and so is ENSO's mission," Erlendsson said. ”。We are committed to decarbonizing the entire ** chain by 2030. We call on the tire industry and our partners to rise to this challenge. If we can do it, so can you. Similarly, we call on all global and industry leaders to show courage in Dubai at COP28 and agree to phase out fossil fuels. “

Enso has been shortlisted in the "Clean Our Air" category of this year's annual environmental awards, the Earth Snapshot Awards, for its efforts to reduce tire pollution. The tire company works to make tires for electric vehicles to extend the range of cars while reducing tire pollution, which the company says is a major source of air pollution and microplastic pollution.

At COP28 on December 6, ENSO said it would fully shift to renewable, coviral**, bio-based and low-carbon raw materials, phasing out all fossil fuel-based materials from its products by 2030.

In addition to working on the decarbonization of EV tires, Enso said it plans to produce tires at a new carbon-neutral plant that "produces safer, more durable, more energy-efficient and more affordable tires with 100% renewable energy." ”

Enso did not provide further details about the plans for the new tire plant.

Despite growing awareness of the impact of tires on carbon emissions, air pollution and ocean microplastic pollution, the tire industry is not addressing these issues fast enough, Enso said in a press release. It added that existing industry targets to achieve decarbonization by 2050 do not have transparent plans to reduce carbon dioxide or particulate matter emissions at the required rate.

Erlendsson, who founded ENSO in 2016, said: "Any industry that deploys road transport anywhere in the chain now has a clear responsibility to recognise and address the carbon footprint of its extensive operations. ”。Unless the tire industry as a whole also rapidly accelerates decarbonization efforts, it will lag behind in moving towards a more sustainable future. ”
