Nickel is a silvery-white metal that has:High mechanical strength, good ductility, refractory and not easy to oxidize in airand other excellent properties, stainless steel and various alloy steels made of it are widely usedAircraft, tanks, ships, radars, missiles, spaceships and machine building in civilian industry, ceramic pigments, permanent magnet materials, electronic remote controland other fields. In the chemical industry, nickel is often used as a hydrogenation catalyst. In recent years, the use of nickel in household appliances and communication equipment has also grown rapidly.
1.1 Analysis of the world's nickel resources
The world's nickel reserves are very rich, and the content in the earth's crust is quite a lot, but than thatOxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, magnesium, much less. The earth's core contains the highest nickel and is a natural nickel-iron alloy. The amount of nickel ore in the earth's crust is 0018 % of the earth's crust contains more nickel than silicon-aluminous rocks, e.g. peridotite contains 1000 times more nickel than granite, and gabbro contains 80 times more nickel than granite. In the distribution of nickel ore resources in the world, laterite nickel ore accounts for about 55%, sulfide nickel ore accounts for 28%, and nickel in seabed iron-manganese nodules accounts for 17%. Due to factors such as mining technology and marine pollution, iron-manganese nodules on the seabed have not yet been actually developed.
In 2018, the world's proven nickel base reserves were about 74 million tons, with total resources of 148 million tons, of which about 60% were laterite nickel ore and about 40% nickel sulfide ore.

(2) Laterite nickel ore

1.2 Analysis of nickel resources in China
China's nickel reserves are 2.9 million tons, accounting for only 393%。China's nickel ore resources are dominated by nickel sulfide ore, which is rich in nickel sulfide ore resources and poor in laterite nickel ore resources. In terms of regional distribution, China's nickel ore resources are mainly distributed in the northwest, southwest and northeast, and their reserves account for the total reserves of the country1% and 49%。Major nickel mines in China include: Jinchuan Nickel Mine, Xiari Hamu Nickel and Cobalt Mine, Karatongke Nickel Mine and Huangshan Nickel Mine.
(1) Gansu Jinchuan Nickel Mine:Located in Jinchang City, Gansu Province, the Jinchuan copper-nickel sulfide deposit is the world's third largest copper-nickel sulfide deposit and the largest nickel-cobalt-platinum group base in China. Jinchuan nickel ore accounts for 62% of the country's nickel resources, 33% of cobalt, and 57% of platinum group resources. Jinchuan Nickel Mine is owned by Jinchuan Group, and is currently divided into three mining units: Longshou Mine, No. 2 Mining Area and No. 3 Mining Area for development. The total annual output of three mega-ton pit mining hills can reach more than 8.8 million tons, and if measured by 1% ore grade, the annual output of nickel metal can reach 8More than 80,000 tonnes (estimated).
(2) Xia Ri Hamu nickel and cobalt mine in Qinghai Province:Located in the western section of the East Kunlun Mountains in western Qinghai Province, the Xiari Hamu Nickel and Cobalt Mine has a nickel resource of about 1.1 million tons and an average nickel grade of 068% with the highest grade of 669%, it is the second largest nickel mine in China. At present, Qinghai Yellow River Mining Co., Ltd. announced that it plans to build a summer Hamu nickel and cobalt mining and dressing project. The mining scale of the first phase is 5.61 million tons per year, and the annual output of nickel concentrate powder in the concentrator is 39640,000 tonnes of years with 18 years of service life for open pit mining.
(3) Karatonke Nickel Mine and Huangshan Nickel Mine:The Karatongke Nickel Mine is located in Fuyun County, Xinjiang, and the Huangshan Nickel Mine is located in Hami City, Xinjiang. Xinjiang Xinxin Mining also owns 100% of the Kalatongke nickel mine and four nickel-copper mines in Huangshan, Huangshan and Xiangshan. The Kelatongk nickel ore has a nickel resource reserve of about 12270,000 tonnes at an average grade of 0 nickel62%;The Huangshan nickel mine plus the Huangshan East and Xiangshan copper-nickel mines have a nickel resource reserve of about 150,000 tons and an average nickel grade of 049%。
In 2015, China's nickel concentrate (nickel content) output was about 9290,000 tons, down 71%。In 2016, China's nickel concentrate production dropped to 90,000 tons, and in 2017, China's nickel ore output was 9440,000 tons, China's nickel output in 2018 was 990,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 487%。In the next few years, there will be no major fluctuations in domestic nickel ore production, and China's nickel ore output will generally stabilize at about 100,000 tons (10,000 tons of metal).
China's nickel resources are scarce, and it needs to import a large amount of nickel ore and concentrate every year to meet domestic demand, and the dependence on foreign raw materials has continued to exceed 80% for many years, as shown in Figure 2-4. Prior to 2014, China's nickel ore imports came mainly from Indonesia and the Philippines. China's total nickel ore imports in 2013 were 98860,000 tons of metal, with Indonesia accounting for 6648%, and the Philippines accounted for 3287%。However, since 2014, with the implementation of Indonesia's raw ore export ban, the amount of nickel ore imported by China from Indonesia has fallen to a high level, reaching 17080,000 tons, which fell to almost zero in 2015-2016. For three consecutive years, almost all of China's nickel ore imports came from the Philippines.
In January 2017, Indonesia relaxed the ban on raw ore exports, and the number of nickel ore exports has also increased as the export quota of local enterprises has increased. Indonesia's laterite nickel ore has a high-grade advantage over the Philippines, with China importing nickel ore from Indonesia at an average grade of 16%, with an average grade of 11%。
In 2017, China imported 41 nickel ore080,000 tons of metal, an increase of about 16% year-on-year, of which imports from the Philippines were 32060,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 465%, accounting for 7805%;The import volume from Indonesia is 6310,000 tons, a significant year-on-year increase, accounting for 1537%;The volume of imports from other countries is 658%, accounting for 658%。In the first three months of 2018, China imported more nickel ore from Indonesia than the Philippines. In 2018, China's nickel ore imports from Indonesia were equal to or slightly higher than those imported from the Philippines. In the future, China's dependence on the import of nickel-containing raw materials will maintain a high proportion.
