What is the transport hazard appraisal and how to do the transport hazard appraisal?

Section 14 of the SDS shall provide basic classification information on the transport of hazardous substances or mixtures by road, rail, sea or air. If the information is not available or is not relevant, it should be explained.

OneUN Number

Provide the United Nations number (i.e., the four-digit identification number of the substance or article) from the United Nations Model Regulations.

IIOfficial United Nations shipping name

Provide the official United Nations transport name in the United Nations Model Regulations.

IIIClassification of transport hazards

Provide transport classes (and secondary risks) of substances or mixtures based on the predominant hazards of the substance or mixture, in accordance with the United Nations Model Regulations.

FourthPackaging category (if applicable).

If applicable, the packing class number of the United Nations Model Regulations should be provided. Packaging category numbers are assigned to specific substances according to their degree of danger.

FiveEnvironmental hazards

Indicate whether the substance or mixture is a known marine pollutant in accordance with the IMDG Code and, if so, whether it is a "marine pollutant" or a "serious marine pollutant". It should also indicate whether the substance or mixture is an environmental hazard in accordance with the United Nations Model Regulations, ADR, RID and AND.

SixSpecial precautions for users

Provide information on any special precautions that the user should be aware of or need to comply with in connection with the shipment.

SevenCarriage of bulk cargo in accordance with IMO instruments

This subsection applies only to bulk cargo intended for carriage under IMO instruments: e.g., Chapter VI or VII of SOLAS

MARPOL Annex II or V, IBC CODE, IMSBC Code and IGC Code (or earlier versions such as EGC Code or GC Code).
