No. 1626 Huashan Road, now Fudan Middle School. The quaint school gate is very eye-catching in the crowded streets of Shanghai: red bricks and tiles, three-arch holes, and plum orchids and bamboo chrysanthemums. Panhua iron gate, imposing. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the first mayor of Shanghai inscribed the name of the school, engraved on the gatehouse. This is the rebuilt school gate of Fudan Middle School on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
Turn the clock back to 1905. At that time, the church was dissatisfied with the famous educator Ma Xiangbo's philosophy of running a school at Aurora College and his proposition that "doctrinal propaganda should be withdrawn from the school", so it abolished its authority and reorganized Aurora. Ma Xiangbo resigned in anger, and the students went on strike and left the school.
At that time, Yu Youren and Shao Lizi, who were pseudonyms Liu Xueyu, found Ma Xiangbo, who was still recuperating.

On May 27, 1905, the first page of the Times published the "Confession of All the Former Officers, Chinese Faculty and Students" of the Former Aurora College, which read: "The name of the former academy has long disappeared";"Now temporarily borrowed from Wu Song, the school is scheduled to open in late July, and it will be renamed Fudan Public School." This is the first time that the name of "Fudan" has appeared in front of the public, and for more than 100 years, these two words have been well-known and shining at home and abroad.
At that time, in addition to 28 celebrities who were enthusiastic about education, including Zhang Jian, Yan Fu, Xiong Xiling, and Yuan Xitao, who served as school directors, raised funds for the resumption of the school, and jointly managed the school, Ma Xiangbo's old friend and Liangjiang Governor Zhou Fu lent Admiral Wu Song as a temporary school building. In September 1905, Fudan Public School officially opened in Wusong.
Although it is close to the Songhu Railway, there is no railway station at the school gate, so the school and the Railway Bureau reached a tacit understanding that as soon as the train arrives near Fudan, it will slow down and look, and if someone greets it, it will stop and let teachers and students get on and off the train. At that time, many teachers lived in downtown Shanghai and often took the train to school - the principal *** was a "frequent traveler". So much so that some people said that ** later chose to buy land in Jiangwan to set up a school, which may be related to the fact that he passed by Jiangwan by train every day.
In 1911, during the Xinhai Uprising, Admiral Wu Song was occupied by the Guangfu Army, and the teachers and students of Fudan Public School had to move to Wuxi to attend classes. At the beginning of 1912, the teachers and students returned to Shanghai and had no fixed residence. Later, after Yu Youren, Shao Lizi and others petitioned, the provisional ** Sun Yat-sen was authorized, and Nanjing was temporarily approved, and the city ** assigned Li Hongzhang Ancestral Hall as the Fudan Public School building, which is where the current Fudan Middle School is located.
At the former site of Fudan Public School, there is a Europa-style building among the towering ancient trees, with a simple and neat appearance, white walls and gray roofs, and some light-colored square decorations. A pair of stone lions at the entrance of the building are majestic, and they are the original of Li Gong Ancestral Hall. On the ground floor, there are French lattice tiles and an elegant semi-circular arched corridor. It is said that there are only two buildings in Shanghai that have survived with this floor brick, and the Mechanics Hall of Fudan Public School, which was completed in 1932, is one of them.
The word "mechanics" is taken from the names of Shao Lizi and Fu Xuewen, in order to commemorate the contributions made by the two to Fudan and to encourage the students to study hard.

Shao Lizi: yes. After the university department moved to the new site in Jiangwan, the secondary school department remained in the same place, the dormitory was still the former Li Gong Ancestral Hall Theater Garden, and the classrooms were rebuilt from the flower hall and pavilion.

Shao Lizi: Exactly. He asked me if I could walk around and raise some money to build a house. I also thought about whether it was possible to raise funds by "issuing construction bonds". Both paths can be done at the same time.

On May 8, 1935, the 30th anniversary celebration of the High School Affiliated to Fudan University and the plaque ceremony of the "Mechanics Hall" were held. There are two plaques in the Mechanics Hall. A piece is the "Mechanics Hall" mentioned by Yu Youren, which is vigorous and powerful, chic and smooth;The other piece is the "Mechanics House" written by Principal Ma Xiangbo, which was made in 1934, but unfortunately its whereabouts are unknown now. This ceremony was also a birthday celebration for the 96-year-old President Ma. Their group photo in front of the Mechanics Hall has also become a shining moment in history.
More than 100 years have passed in a flash, and Fudan Middle School has cultivated a large number of cultural celebrities, more than 10 academicians, and sent tens of thousands of useful talents. Chen Yinke, Zhu Kezhen, Yu Dafu, Luo Jialun and others set sail from here and became elites in China's natural and social science circles.
The floor-to-ceiling mirror placed on the ground floor of the mechanics hall always reminds Fudan teachers and students to understand etiquette and state of mind. No matter how it changes, this school will eventually be bathed in a hundred years of wind and rain, and the sun and the moon will be the same light.
