Product managers need to switch from the Internet to the AI field, not only Xi new AI knowledge. What's more, we often have to overcome several common psychological biases first:
1. Endowment effect: We tend to overestimate the value of what we already have. Having worked in the Internet industry for many years, we have accumulated a wealth of experience and contacts, which are often regarded as a valuable asset. But unfortunately, in the Internet industry, the value of these "wealth" has now been greatly "shrunk", and may even be a "sunk cost". But often, Internet product managers are hesitant to give up these "sunk costs."
2. The IKEA effect: When people are personally involved in the creation of something, they value the item. This phenomenon is also known as the "IKEA effect". Whether it's what we've achieved or what we've done, there's an "IKEA effect". The "IKEA effect" also influences our decision-making at life transitions.
3. Aversion to loss: People tend to care more about loss than gain. Switching to AI means learning Xi from scratch, which means paying a certain amount of time and financial cost, and we worry about whether we will face losses. As a result, internet product managers may be hesitant to switch careers.
But in reality, these psychological biases can be actively identified and overcome. Once we realize that our hesitation is actually caused by psychological biases, we focus on the real problem.
Obviously, the current economic situation is very clear: the future is the era of AI!But while AI is creating a flood of new jobs, demand for some traditional jobs is shrinking. And the first to bear the brunt is the Internet industry. Most jobs in the internet industry can be replaced by AI. This is an industry with shrinking personnel needs. Clearly, we need to turn challenges into opportunities.
Switching to AI, is it an opportunity or a challenge? It's a purely personal choice. But the product manager is the one who can see the future, and each of us has our own "telescope". When we are faced with the real critical decisions in our lives, the right thing to do is to calm down and wipe the dust off the "telescope", and then the future will clearly appear in front of your eyes.
