Brazil, December 18, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Scala Data Centers has begun operations with its first data center in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The data center is called SPOAPA01 and has an IT capacity of 48mw。

The spoapa01 is the result of a $48 million investment dedicated to hyperscale customers. The facility is powered by 100% certified renewable energy with a PUE of 14 or less.

Plans for the data center were first announced in October 2022 and are said to have been developed using Scala's FastDeploy modular design. The entire facility will be rented out to a large content provider.

The data center is located near N**Egantes, close to other data centers and the Malbec System Subsea Cable, which will soon be coming to the city to connect Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires.

Marcos Peigo, CEO and co-founder of Scala, said: "We are very excited about the inauguration of this new data center, which occupies a strategic position in close proximity to the data centers serving telecom operators. ”

Although its architecture, density, and capacity are outdated compared to hyperscale customer standards, these other sites in the region represent relevant connection points and traffic interests. With the site now operational, our customers can finally choose a global standard data center to serve the region's growing market, including support for the Buenos Aires region of Argentina. ”

Scala was founded in 2020 and currently has 9 operating data centers. Four of them are located in the Tambore campus in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, and the others are located in the cities of São Paulo, Campinas (São Paulo, Brazil), São João de Meriti (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), and Curama (Brazil). Chile), tepotzotlán (Mexico), and now Porto Alegre.

In November 2023, the company issued 2$1.5 billion in green bonds.
