In the winter of Xuelin Township, Lancang Lahu Autonomous County, Pu'er City, the whole area is still full of greenery, and as far as the eye can see, the tall alders are particularly abrupt, and the large leaves are overlapping layer by layer, as if opening a door back to the Jurassic era.

The high altitude of the snow forest, the abundant rainfall, the perennial humid ravine and the abundant sunlight make it a home for the alder to survive. Recently, a large-scale group of "living fossils" of alder has been discovered in Xuelin Township, Lancang County, with more than 30,000 trees and an average height of 5 to 6 meters.

Alder, also known as "tree fern", is the only arbor fern that has been discovered, which is extremely precious, can be called a national treasure, and is known as a "living fossil". The straight and hollow trunk with the leaves like a giant umbrella not only has a very high ornamental value but also has great medicinal value, its stem is rich in nutrients, is a precious Chinese medicinal material, known as "keel wind", can be used for rheumatism and trauma, the human body has the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying, coughing, anti-inflammatory and analgesic, and enhancing immunity.

Ferns don't flower and bear fruit, so how does it reproduce? The secret of the alder is hidden on the back of its leaves, and the small dots on the back of the leaves are its "spores" (sporangia), when the "spores" are broken, they will be scattered with the wind, and they can sprout when they fall in a suitable place for growth, although the number of spores is large, but the survival rate is not high, it can be seen that the alder is extremely rare.

In recent years, Lancang County has firmly established the concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, and 289 forest rangers in the township are guarding more than 200,000 acres of mountain forests, and full-time forest rangers patrol at least 21 days a month, and each patrol time is not less than 1 hour. Use WeChat groups and other carriers to publicize laws and regulations on the protection of wild animals and plants, and raise the public's awareness of the protection of wild animals and plants. In the next step, Xuelin Township will continue to increase the publicity of wildlife protection, continue to carry out special actions to patrol the mountains, and promote the protection of wild animals and plants on a regular basis, so that wild animals and plants can continue to multiply.
