On October 7, 2023, a sudden rocket attack shattered the relative calm between Palestine and Israel, triggering a fierce conflict that continues to this day. According to statistics, as of December 25, the conflict has caused at least 2040,000 Palestinians and more than 1,200 Israelis have died, and tens of thousands have been injured or displaced. The new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict is not only a political and military confrontation between the two countries, but also a life-and-death struggle between the two peoples. In this conflict, the most innocent civilians have become the biggest victims. What are their voices?
In the Gaza Strip, Palestinians are living in dire straits in the face of relentless bombardment by the Israeli army. The Gaza Strip is a narrow strip of land with an area of just over 360 square kilometres, but it is crowded with more than 3 million Palestinians and is more densely populated than Singapore. However, the living conditions of Gazans are far from those of Singapore, and can even be described as hell on earth. Israel has imposed a total blockade on the Gaza Strip for more than a decade, resulting in Gazans lacking basic necessities such as food, water, electricity, medical care, etc. Most of the wells in the Gaza Strip have been sealed by the Israeli army with cement, and Gazans have to rely on desalination plants for fresh water, which are also often damaged by Israel. Electricity in the Gaza Strip** is also very volatile, with only a few hours a day and can be cut off at any time. The health system in the Gaza Strip is also on the verge of collapse, with hospitals and clinics lacking medicines, equipment and personnel to cope with the large number of wounded and sick. Gazans have also been severely affected in terms of education, employment and recreation, with many children unable to attend school, many young people unable to find work and many families unable to lead normal lives.
In such an environment, Gazans are also under tremendous psychological pressure, not only fearing for their own safety and the safety of their families, but also facing attacks by the Israeli army at any time. During the conflict, the Israeli army's military operations in the Gaza Strip have caused a large number of civilian** and property damage, many houses, schools, hospitals, mosques, etc. have been blown up, and many innocent women, children, and the elderly have been killed or injured. According to data from the Gaza Strip health department, as of December 25, Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have caused at least 2040,000 Palestinians died, 540,000 people were injured, about half of them women and children. In such circumstances, the hearts of Gazans are filled with grief, anger and despair, and their hatred for Israel is growing deeper, and they yearn to be able to free themselves from Israeli military occupation and blockade, to restore their dignity and rights, and to achieve their own national liberation and nation-building. They also hope that the international community will give them more support and help, speak out and exert pressure on their just cause, and urge Israel to stop its aggression against them and achieve Palestinian-Israeli peace.
Within Israel, Israelis are also under constant attack by Palestinian armed groups and live in fear and insecurity. Since October 7, Palestinian armed groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad have fired thousands of rockets into Israel, covering most of Israel, including major cities such as Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Be'er Sheva. The rockets, while not very precise and powerful, have caused enormous psychological stress and panic among Israelis, many of whom have had to hide in bomb shelters or basements, or are ready to flee to safety. According to statistics, as of 25 December, rocket attacks by Palestinian armed groups had killed at least 1,200 Israelis and injured thousands, including women and children. In addition, Palestinian armed groups have launched ground attacks, breached the Israeli military blockade and carried out attacks on Israeli border areas, killing or capturing a number of Israeli officers and soldiers.
In such an environment, Israelis are also under tremendous psychological pressure, not only fearing for their own safety and the safety of their families, but also facing the possibility of attacks by Palestinian armed groups at any time. During the conflict, the Israeli and military counterattacks against Palestinian armed groups have also sparked widespread controversy at home and abroad.
