How to type dashes in English
In English, the use of dashes is somewhat different from other languages. Here are a few common ways to enter dashes:
1.Dashes on the keyboard.
On most keyboards, dashes can be entered directly through the keyboard. In general, English dashes can be entered by pressing the shift + minus key combination (-). At the same time, you can also try pressing the option + number 0 key combination to enter the dash.
2.Dashes in Microsoft Word.
In Microsoft Word, dashes can be entered using carets or special characters. First, open Word and select where you want to insert the dash, then click on the "Insert" tab. Next, select "Other Symbols" from the "Symbols" drop-down menu, search for "dashes" in the pop-up dialog box and select the corresponding characters. Finally, click the "Insert" button to insert the dash into the document.
3.Enter the dash on your Mac.
On Mac computers, you can use the same keyboard shortcut Shift + Minus (-) to enter dashes. Alternatively, you can enter a dash by opening System Preferences and selecting the Keyboard tab, finding Special Characters in the Shortcuts area and selecting the Options key, then pressing the option + numeric 0 key combination.
In short, whether it is on the keyboard or on Microsoft Word or Mac computer, the way to enter dashes is relatively simple. English dashes can be easily typed by memorizing a few specific key combinations or by means of carets or special characters.
