A suicide attack on a military facility in Pakistan killed several people

Beijing, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- A military facility in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan was hit by a suicide attack in the early morning of Dec. 12. More than 20 people died in the attack, according to **. An armed group affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban claimed the attack.

Reuters, citing two Pakistani security guards, reported that the attack was on a police station in the Dera Ismail Khan area on Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. This police station was used by the military as a barracks. At least 24 members of the security forces were killed and many others injured as a result of the attack.

At least 23 people died in the attack, a local **, who asked not to be identified, told AFP, but could not be sure whether all of the dead were military personnel.

The Associated Press, citing information provided by **, reported that an attacker drove a car at the main entrance of the police station and detonated the device on the car**, causing part of the building to collapse. At least six people were killed and 25 injured in the attack. A number of armed men then exchanged fire with the security forces.

After the incident, the Pakistani Taliban-affiliated militant group, the Pakistani Jihadist Movement, claimed to have carried out the attack.
