In recent years, Europe and the United States have claimed to be world leaders in environmental protection, but they have often used various means to suppress other countries, especially developing countries, on climate change. Their implementation of so-called carbon border taxes on developing countries is an example of this. This tax policy is aimed at emissions-intensive imported products, mainly including chemical products such as steel products and aluminum products. In essence, this approach has created obstacles to development for developing countries. This is because the production of these products is mainly concentrated in developing countries, while developed countries themselves do not levy carbon taxes. This means that developing countries will bear more and more carbon taxes, limiting their pace of development.
As a "pioneer" of environmentalism, the EU has been at the forefront of clean energy. However, the EU has taken similar protectionist actions, prohibiting Chinese photovoltaic products from entering the EU market, claiming that China has dumped the EU market. However, years later, the EU's PV industry is in trouble, and there is not a single decent company to support. Eventually, the EU had to reopen its market to boost the domestic PV industry. This raises questions about whether these measures are motivated by the promotion of the EU's new energy industry or the protection of local businesses.
Similarly, France took the lead in proposing a countervailing investigation into China's new energy vehicles, asking the European Union to boycott China's new energy vehicles. This is a clear violation of what they claim to be "climate protectionism". This is because China's new energy vehicles have put competitive pressure on traditional fuel vehicles in the European market. The United States and Europe have lagged behind China in green energy development, whether wind, solar, or hydro. In addition, China also has leading application technologies in fields such as new energy electric vehicles and photovoltaic power generation.
At the climate conference, European and American countries signed a document proposing to triple the current capacity of global nuclear energy. The reason why they advocate nuclear energy so much is essentially because China has far surpassed the United States and Europe in the construction of new energy fields such as wind, solar, and hydropower, and once the world enters the new energy revolution, China is bound to become a leader. Therefore, in order not to lag behind China, European and American countries have no choice but to change their strategies and forcibly pull the two sides to the same starting line. They claim that without nuclear energy, the world will not be able to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. However, there are certain risks associated with nuclear energy, and the lessons of the Chernobyl and Fukushima accidents are still fresh in mind. The fundamental reason why European and American countries are promoting nuclear energy programs is that they are worried about China's leading position in the new energy industry. This can be seen as a "if you can't beat you, then change the track" strategy.
From the above behaviors, it can be seen that the performance of European and American countries on climate issues is actually jealousy and hostility towards China's new energy industry. They try to suppress and limit China's development through various means in order to maintain their own leadership position. However, their approach can only temporarily hinder China's development, and cannot change China's dominant position in the field of new energy. I believe that China will continue to play an important role in the new energy revolution and make greater contributions to the global climate change problem. At the same time, I also hope that European and American countries can adopt a more cooperative attitude and work with China to address the global challenge of climate change and achieve the goal of sustainable development.
