The second week of December was the most surprising since the launch of Meta Quest 3. First, on December 13, the Meta Quest platform introduced Xbox Game Pass. A day later, Microsoft launched the basic Office suite for free on the Meta Quest store.
To enable the Office suite, you'll need a Microsoft account and one of four Meta Quest headsets, including Meta Quest 1, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3. Then, in the Meta Quest Store and the free apps for Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
You can then use all three Office apps by simply logging in to your Microsoft account once, and all three run in the cloud, which keeps the Quest headset high performance and means you can quickly multitask between apps by tapping the universal menu bar icon at the bottom of the Quest UI.
You can even run the Office suite at the same time on Meta Quest by pressing and holding each Office app icon on the universal home bar at the bottom, then dragging it to the window position of one of the three Office apps.
To use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard with the Office suite (and other Quest apps), tap Meta Quest "Settings", list "Devices", and follow the prompts to pair the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the headset; It's much easier to interact with Office apps using a mouse and keyboard.
In October last year, Meta and Microsoft announced a partnership to bring Microsoft Office, Azure and even Windows 11 to Meta Quest. Thirteen months later, we've seen four apps finally launch on Meta Quest, and there are plenty of other productivity apps still planned for Meta Quest.
