The state-owned Weiyang Diesel Engine Factory is a large-scale backbone enterprise of the Ministry of Ordnance Industry and a professional factory for the production of diesel engines by China North Industries (Group) Corporation. It was founded in Shanghai in 1941, and later served as the Automobile Repair Factory of the Joint Logistics Headquarters of the Ministry of Military and Political Affairs of the Kuomintang, that is, the "May 1st" factory. In 1949, it was taken over by the Chinese People's Liberation Army and renamed "East China Automobile Repair Factory".
In December 1950, it was renamed "Northwest Yuzhen Automobile Parts Factory" in Baoji County, which was under the leadership of the Northwest Military Region. In August 1951, it was renamed "Chinese People's Liberation Army Automobile Repair Factory No. 1". It was under the leadership of the Logistics Department of the Military Commission and was one of the six major automobile repair factories in the army at that time. In 1952, the first T214 automobile engine in China was successfully trial-produced. In 1953, it was transferred to the leadership of the Third Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1958, the trial production of 1 imitation Yuejin brand car was successful. In 1961, it was renamed "Weiyang Diesel Engine Factory". There are 6,593 employees and 662 engineering and technical personnel. The factory covers an area of 9180,000 square meters, production construction area of 28910,000 square meters. It has 62 sets of fine, large and thin equipment, 1,245 sets of metal cutting equipment and 97 sets of forging equipment. The original value of fixed assets was 168.38 million yuan.
Before 1967, it was mainly engaged in the production of auto parts and diesel engine parts. Production of diesel engines began in 1967. In 1980, after the introduction of 413F series air-cooled diesel engines from the Federal Republic of Germany with the approval of the state, it became the designated manufacturer of air-cooled diesel engines of the Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industry of the People's Republic of China. The factory has a complete set of special equipment and assembly automatic production lines for the production of air-cooled diesel engines, as well as international advanced measuring instruments and diesel engine testing equipment. The air-cooled diesel engines produced by the factory are widely used in trucks, buses, special vehicles, digging and loading machinery, petroleum mining machinery, generator sets, ships, rail vehicles, etc., and have been exported in batches. In 1984, the BF8L413F supercharged air-cooled engine was awarded the "Golden Dragon Award" for outstanding new products by the State Economic Commission.
Under the guidance of the policy of "protecting the army and turning it into a civilian", the factory has developed the Weiyang 50 light motorcycle. By 1985, the product model has developed to the fifth generation (50HB type) in the creation of the country quality evaluation, two consecutive times won the first place in the total score.
In 1985, Weiyang 50 light motorcycle won the new product "Golden Dragon Award" issued by the State Economic Commission.

Weiyang brand motorcycle was listed as one of the key projects of military-civilian technological transformation during the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" period, with an investment of 22 million yuan to build 2 engine parts lines and 1 vehicle line.
