Historical records record that the king of Zhou You in order to ask for a smile and the beacon fire play the princes, repeatedly teasing, causing the princes to be disheartened, when the dog Rong attacked, the beacon fire was lit again, but the princes thought that it was another teasing, so the dog Rong destroyed the Western Zhou.
Modern scholars have found that the "Beacon Opera Princes" is not real, and the princes cannot come at any time to "escort", the real situation is the battle for the throne of the Zhou Dynasty, and the Shen State and the Xuan State colluded with the Dog Rong, which led to the Dog Rong breaking through the capital and finally destroying the Western Zhou Dynasty.
The problem is: whether it is the princes of the Beacon Fire Opera or the truth now, there is a question, that is, why is the strength of the dog Rong so strong, and it can actually attack the Zhou capital, and it can also break through the Zhou capital?Archaeology has found a bronze artifact of the Western Zhou Dynasty, and the content of the inscription on it fills another historical gap, and more importantly, the content of the inscription rewrites people's perception of the strength of the dog Rong.
In 1980, in Chang'an District, Xi'an, Shaanxi, archaeology unearthed a bronze tripod of King Zhou Li, the owner is called "Duoyou", so it is called "Duoyou Ding" (see the figure below), the content of the tripod record is briefly described as follows:
When Zhou Li was the king (?In October of a certain year (the invasion of foreign races in the north is often around ***), the invasion of the 猃狁 (xiǎn yǔn) endangered the hinterland of Gyeonggi, and King Zhou Li ordered the "Wu Gong" to lead the "Duoyou" to meet the battle, and the Duoyou and the Lynx fought fiercely for half a month, and fought four battles successively, all of which were victorious, among which "Fu (captured) Rong Che 10 times 10 times and 7 times", and later "Fu car 10 times". Later, Duke Wu reported the achievements of Duoyou to King Li, and King Li gave a heavy reward and gave Duoyou more than 100 bronze jun, and Duoyou cast a tripod to commemorate this event.
The content recorded by Duoyou Ding is not recorded in the history books, indicating that as early as the time of King Zhou Li, the lynx has become the great enemy of the Western Zhou Dynasty.
In addition to Duoyouding, archaeology also found that many bronzes in the late Western Zhou Dynasty involved "lynx", indicating that the lynx was indeed the main enemy of the northwest direction of the Zhou Dynasty at that time.
What's more, the lynx is not just a nomadic cavalry and archery people, as people think, but a people with the ability to engage in large-scale vehicle warfare, so Duoyou can "capture 127 chariots". During the Spring and Autumn Period, the criterion for measuring a country's war ability was the number of chariots, and during the Spring and Autumn Period, the Jin and Qi powers were only "the country of a thousand times", which shows that the strength of the lynx is very strong.
What kind of nationality is the lynx recorded in Duoyou Ding?In fact, the lynx is the old name of the dog Rong tribes, which was active in the area of present-day Shaanxi and Gansu in ancient times, between the lynx and the Qi. Therefore, the raccoon is the dog Rong, which contains many tribes in it, but there is no unified power, which is equivalent to the Mongolian tribes before the unification of later generations.
According to historical records, after King Yi of Zhou, the Zhou Dynasty counterattacked the Lynx many times, such as King Yi of Zhou, "ordered Duke Yu to lead the six divisions to attack the Rong of Taiyuan" and won a big victory, and King Xuan of Zhou (the father of King You of Zhou) ordered Yin Jifu and Nanzhong to send troops to conquer the Lynx and won a big victory. Among them, Yin Jifu is the collector and compiler of China's first poetry collection "Book of Songs".
Although King Xuan of Zhou won a great victory over the Lynx, the Book of Poetry Cai Wei said: "There is no normal family life, because of the Lynx." Not to mention the opening of the house (there is no time to sit down), the reason for the rampant. "Because of the repeated invasions of the Lynx, the Zhou people could not live normally, so they could only keep going out to defend their homeland.
It is not difficult to see that although there were internal reasons for the demise of the Western Zhou Dynasty, the long-term invasion and anti-invasion war consumed a lot of national strength. Due to the repeated invasions of the Lynx, and even the soldiers came to the city of Zhou, King Yi of Zhou was forced to move the capital to Dog Hill, and the historical records record that the seventh monarch of the Western Zhou Dynasty "When King Yi was king, the royal family declined".
After that, to King You of Zhou, after more than 150 years in the middle, although the Zhou Dynasty has achieved many victories, but in the long-term invasion and counterattack, its own consumption is also very obvious, and it has reached the point of "being a good house".
In particular, it should be noted that when the king of Zhou You, Shen Guo and Zhangguo colluded with Dog Rong to defeat the pickaxe capital, and there is a high probability that Shen Xuan will be used as an internal response, resulting in the destruction of the pickaxe capital, otherwise it will be difficult for the nomads to break through the fortified city.
In short, the Western Zhou Dynasty itself had many problems, and it was not surprising that the Western Zhou Dynasty perished because of its long-term war attrition, coupled with the fact that the strength of the Lynx was indeed very strong, and the internal should lead the way.
There are two more points worth mentioning about the topic of this article:
First of all, after figuring out the strength of the Lynx, we can understand why the Central Plains was in danger at the beginning of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, why the Spring and Autumn Ram Biography will say that "Nanyi and Beidi are intertwined, and China is endless", and why there will be "respecting the king and conquering Yi" in the Spring and Autumn Period. Because Rong Di's strength was really strong at that time, he almost wiped out the Central Plains countries, but fortunately, Qi Huangong, Jin Xiangong and others came forward to defeat Zhu Rong.
Secondly, the lynx is the collective name of all the nomadic peoples in the northwest, and it was occasionally called so until the Tang Dynasty. For example, Liu Yan said in the Tang Dynasty that "the rampant offender Guan Dulong entered the Beijing division without blood", but Liu Hun said in the Tang Dynasty that "Rong Di, jackals also, non-alliance oaths can be concluded". Judging from the situation of the Tang Dynasty, the Qiang people should mainly be the Western Qiang people, and the Qiang people still exist today.
