In Dongdiantou Village, Junan County, Shandong Province, there is a little uncle named Cao Yuhai, who left home many years ago to join the army and never returned. His sister-in-law Wang Yuehua has been looking forward to his return, but one day 50 years later, several People's Liberation Army and local ** cadres came to visit Wang Yuehua, but they brought her sad news.
Officials from the local civil affairs bureau told Wang Yuehua that Cao Yuhai died on the battlefield in Korea 50 years ago. Cao Yuhai was born in 1923 and grew up in a farming family. The family was not wealthy, especially at the beginning of the 20th century, when the effects of the war made the family's financial situation more difficult. In order to make ends meet, the Cao family had to sell their fields and became tenant farmers for the landlords.
Since he was a child, Cao Yuhai has followed his parents to work in the fields, or to help the landlord's family to make a living. When he was six years old, Shandong Province was hit by a severe natural disaster, which affected the province's grain harvest, caused heavy losses to the landlords' families, and the tenant farmers were unable to pay their rents. The landlord knew that the natural disaster had caused damage to his crops, but he was furious even if he did not receive the rent he deserved.
So he found a man from among the tenant farmers who could not pay the rent to be the gunman, gathered them in the drying yard, scolded and beaten them to vent his anger. Cao Yuhai's father was a typical Gengzhi Shandong man, who could not tolerate the actions of the landlord, so he had a dispute with the landlord.
The landlord was humiliated in public, and his heart became even more angry, so he ordered Cao's father to be tied up and brutally beaten, which eventually led to Cao's father's unfortunate death. This tragedy left a deep scar on the young Cao Yuhai, and although he was still very young, the fire of hatred for the landlord in his heart ignited at that moment, and this fire of hatred was destined to burst into a raging fire in the future.
After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the Cao family's life in the occupied area became more difficult, and the surrounding villages were swept away by the Japanese army's three-light policy from time to time, which made the villagers of Dongdiantou Village feel terrified. However, in the end, disaster befell the Cao family.
The Japanese ransacked the impoverished village, even demonstratively taking some villagers away and brutally executing them in front of their families, including Cao Yuhai's grandfather. The death of his father and grandfather left the family without a pillar of support, and great grief enveloped the whole family, and the mother and grandmother died one after another due to overwork and grief, leaving only the brother and sister-in-law and Cao Yuhai.
This originally happy family is so fragmented, which makes Cao Yuhai's deep will for revenge even stronger. However, just as he was about to say goodbye to his brother and sister-in-law, who raised him like his parents, his brother fell ill due to overwork and passed away, leaving his sister-in-law Wang Yuehua to suffer alone at home. Cao Yuhai was affectionate and couldn't bear to see his new widowed sister-in-law at home alone, so he chose to stay at home with her for two years.
It wasn't until his sister-in-law gradually adjusted his mood that Cao Yuhai bid farewell to his hometown that carried his joys and sorrows and joined the Eighth Route Army in 1943. At the beginning of joining the army, although his heart was full of blood, as a farmer for many years, Cao Yuhai was not Xi to battlefield life. However, out of deep hatred for the aggressor, he worked hard to overcome various difficulties, accumulating valuable experience in battle.
Only a few months after joining the army, Cao Yuhai showed his heroic fighting spirit in a battle and achieved impressive results, but he was also seriously wounded and almost died. The injuries were difficult to heal, and the troops decided to let him go home to recuperate. Back home, Cao Yuhai was depressed and felt that he hadn't worked hard enough.
Fortunately, Wang Yuehua, who took care of him, gave him great comfort: "You have done a good job, and it has only taken less than a year to make such a contribution, which is far better than other young people!."With the encouragement of his sister-in-law, Cao Yuhai gradually came out of his depression. After recovering from his wounds, he put on his military uniform again and prepared to return to the army.
However, it was found that the Eighth Route Army, where it was originally located, had been transferred to another place and could not be contacted for the time being. Therefore, he could only apply to the 111th Division of the Northeast Army near Junan County to return to the team. According to the regulations of the army, Cao Yuhai's application should not have been approved, but considering that he left the team because of his meritorious service, the local ** specially approved his application for returning to the team and let him directly join the 111th Division.
After returning to the army, Cao Yuhai was persuaded by his sister-in-law to become more cheerful, coupled with his previous combat experience, he was no longer as rude as before in battle, but paid more attention to skill, so he achieved a higher victory rate and was commended for his meritorious service many times. After the end of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1945, the domestic situation remained unstable.
Cao Yuhai devoted himself to the War of Liberation, moved from Shandong to the Northeast to confront the Kuomintang, and successively participated in the Battle of Siping and other battles in the Northeast, and was rated as a combat hero many times. His exploits during the War of Liberation are miraculous, and he has been commended as a combat hero more than once, and has recorded as many as seven combat exploits. Because of his remarkable combat exploits, Cao Yuhai was promoted to battalion commander.
In 1950, Cao Yuhai learned that the country was facing a threat from the United States, and the People's Liberation Army was about to go to North Korea to resist the United States and aid Korea. Despite having just been demobilized, he volunteered to be re-enlisted. In October, Cao Yuhai set foot on Korean soil, with his head held high and with ignorant pride. However, he did not know that his young life would be laid to rest forever on this land.
In January 1951, he led the fighters to receive the protection of 3503 high and important tasks. This site played an important role in the Korean War, and the famous Battle of Songgu Peak took place in this area. Despite understanding the cruelty of the situation, Cao Yuhai did not waver. On the contrary, he is more determined to fight and believe that he can get the job done.
Therefore, when engaging the American troops, he was firm and calm, did not hesitate to command the fighters, successfully blocked several enemy attacks. Although Cao Yuhai's command was flawless, and the volunteer soldiers also showed tenacious will and unyielding fighting spirit, they also suffered a huge ** in the face of powerful American firepower. By the seventh blockade, the surviving warriors were wounded and exhausted.
Cao Yuhai put down the binoculars, picked up the submachine gun, and encouraged the soldiers: "Brothers, this is our last attack, victory is just around the corner!."These words inspired the soldiers, and they heard a cry from Cao Yuhai: "Rush!."With all his strength, he rushed to the scattered American troops and launched a fierce firefight. However, this time, Cao Yuhai did not survive.
After several days of fighting, the soldiers ran out of ammunition, and after Cao Yuhai ran out of the last bullet, he engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the American army. Unfortunately, at the end of the battle, an American soldier shot Cao Yuhai in the head and chest, and he collapsed in a pool of blood.
Before dying, Cao Yuhai hugged his warrior tightly and explained: "Brother......."Tell my sister-in-law ......I didn't live up to the ...... of the old Cao familyAfter the victory of the battle, the headquarters deeply regretted Cao Yuhai's sacrifice and posthumously awarded him the honorary titles of "Special Meritorious Hero" and "First-Class Combat Hero", so that the martyr's sacrifice will always be remembered in people's hearts.
However, in the process of informing the families, there was a mistake in the work of the troops. Due to the redivision of Ju County in the 40s, Cao Yuhai's hometown Diantou Village was reclassified to Junan County, resulting in a backlog of letters sent to Ju County by the local postal office. This story also made Wang Yuehua never hear from Cao Yuhai for 50 years.
During these long 50 years, she has lived in worry and unease, and has suffered countless criticisms. It wasn't until 2000 that she finally learned the news of Cao Yuhai's sacrifice. Although Cao Yuhai has long since passed away, as a combat hero, his spirit will always be remembered by the people. It is precisely because of heroes like Cao Yuhai who firmly defend the country that we can enjoy today's happy life.
Let us pay our highest respect to these revolutionary martyrs!
