Manchester United fans will be keeping a close eye on their Champions League opponents in the fight for the round of 16

Manchester United fans will have to keep a close eye on how their Champions League rivals get along, with Erik ten Hag's side needing help elsewhere to progress from the group.

Manchester United fans will be keeping a close eye on another Champions League game as they look to get help from elsewhere.

Erik Ten Hag desperately needs his Manchester United reaction as they were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Saturday. At the start of a crucial week, the result put pressure on the Dutchman.

United's poor Champions League season so far has given them their final chance on the final matchday of the group stage, and their fate is not even in their own hands, as they hosted group leaders Bayern Munich ahead of Sunday's away trip to Liverpool.

The Red Devils are currently bottom of Group A with four points, one less than Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen, who will meet in their final game on Tuesday. That means the only way United can give themselves a chance to qualify for the knockout stages is by beating Bayern.

However, if Galatasaray or FC Copenhagen win in Denmark, then three points will not be enough for Manchester United. Manchester United can only advance if the other game in the group is a draw and they beat the German giants.

If Ten Hag's side win that night, and a win for either side in the group stage, United will finish third and qualify for the Europa League. A draw for Manchester United and a defeat for FC Copenhagen would also see United finish third as either a higher goal difference or more goals in favour of the English club – unless Copenhagen reverse their five-goal deficit over the Red Devils.

If Manchester United lose, they will finish bottom of the group and will be eliminated from Europe regardless of the outcome for Denmark.

Copenhagen are currently second in the group on goal difference. However, unlike the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League uses a head-to-head record rather than a goal difference – meaning that if Packen has a winner, that team advances.

If Denmark's match ends in a draw and Manchester United fail to win, then FC Copenhagen will advance on goal difference as the last match between FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray also ended in a draw.
