Does Monkey King really exist?China found the "Monkey King Tomb", and there was a golden hoop stick in the tomb
Does Monkey King really exist?Somewhere in China, the tomb of the Monkey King was found and a golden hoop rod was found inside. Since ancient times, people have had a soft spot for the imaginative literary classic "Journey to the West". Although the storyline is obsessive, most people still believe that "Journey to the West" is fictional by the author except for the fact that the historical figures played by Tang Taizong and Xuanzang are real. However, a mysterious archaeological discovery in the Shunchang region of Fujian Province in 1997 forced a re-examination of the possibility of the Monkey King's existence.
That year, archaeologists were surprised to discover a Ming tomb in an ancient temple covering an area of about 20 square meters. Local history books, tombstones, and carbon dating techniques confirm this conclusion.
What is even more surprising is the amount of information revealed by the tombstones, namely the two names - Monkey King and Tongtian Master. Although these two tombstones are only more than two meters long and more than one meter wide, they are extremely beautifully carved, as if they are masterpieces of nature, giving people a sense of solemnity and sacredness. This leads to a bold hypothesis: does Monkey King really exist?
In the original work of "Journey to the West" by Yang Jingxian in the Yuan Dynasty, Sun Wukong was first called the Monkey King. According to the book, Monkey King had five brothers and sisters, namely Lishan Old Mother, Monkey King, Tongtian Great Sage (another name for Sun Wukong), Our Lady of Wujiguan and San Lang Xizi.
However, in Wu Chengen's adaptation of "Journey to the West" in the Ming Dynasty, Sun Wukong is no longer there"Little Sage", but was promoted to Monkey King, that is, the elder brother. This is consistent with the name on a tombstone in Shunchang County, Fujian, which seems to be borrowed from Yang Jingxian's version of "Journey to the West".
This discovery reveals the mysterious connection between the ancient literary work Journey to the West and the real world, forcing us to rethink the boundaries between reality and reality. Whether the Monkey King really exists is still a mystery, but this archaeological discovery undoubtedly provides infinite possibilities for our thinking.
In the twin tombs buried deep in the Shunchang area, a pair of brothers with a long history are buried. They have been silent in the depths of history, unknown for many years, and their existence has aroused endless doubts and questions. In reality, they are the image of the Monkey King on the paper written by the Ming Dynasty writer Wu Chengen. However, Wu Chengen's Monkey King was born in the Ming Dynasty, and people at that time were unlikely to have a deep understanding of this image, and they were more exposed to the image of the Monkey King written by Yang Jingxian in the Yuan Dynasty.
Monkey King, a name full of legends, has a different image in the long history. But how do we confirm that he really exists? What evidence can be provided by the ancient tombs that have been discovered?
The golden hoop stick is the most likely proof of the existence of the Monkey King, but it is not enough to prove that the Monkey King actually existed, it may just be a legend or the Monkey King's"Graves"。The Monkey King in different versions is different, so his identity is also disputed. Fictitious markers make it difficult to accept that he really exists.
Wu Chengen's depiction of the Monkey King may have been inspired by Yang Jingxian. He did not portray Monkey King as the second brother of the Tongtian Sect Master, but as a new sage with five brothers in one. His mana went up to the heavenly palace and down to the hell, and there were seventy-two changes.
Therefore, the tombs of the Monkey King and the Tongtian Sect Master found are all mythological figures written by Yang Jingxian, not just the tomb of Sun Wukong, who was born in the Ming Dynasty. This seems to reveal an obvious answer: this Monkey King is not the same character as the Monkey King we are familiar with.
While excavating the Second Holy Tomb, the locals accidentally found an item: an old and ordinary iron rod, which was rusty. This iron rod, which is ordinary in the eyes of the natives, has been given a mysterious and legendary name--"Golden Hoop Stick":"Golden Hoop Stick"It should be the Monkey King's magic weapon in the movie "Journey to the West". However, its simple shape is far from the image of the golden hoop stick in **, which can only show that it may be a legendary magic weapon.
This raises a question in the minds of the public: does the fictional Monkey King really have a prototype?Does Monkey King really exist?
Yang Jingxian of the Yuan Dynasty was originally named Yang Xian, a Mongolian, and later changed his name to Yang Ne. Although he was not of Han nationality, he stood out on the stage of the Yuan Dynasty with his unexpected talent for opera. In the early years of the Ming Dynasty, he and Tang Shunmin received special favor from Zhu Di, the ancestor of the Ming Dynasty. After the turmoil at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, he moved to Qiantang (present-day Hangzhou), leaving behind 18 different theatrical works.
However, most of Yang Jingxian's various operas eventually disappeared, leaving only two parts, "Journey to the West" and "Liu Xingshou". In this version of "Journey to the West", Yang Jingxian has outlined the wonderful adventures of Xuanzang Sanzang and his three apprentices, which undoubtedly laid the foundation for Wu Chengen's later "Journey to the West".
Although we can't be sure of the true prototype of "Journey to the West", there is no doubt that in this great work, we see Yang Jingxian's rich imagination and extraordinary creative talent, as well as his deep affection for Chinese cultural traditions.
In Yang Jingxian's creative world, the image of Sun Wukong has not yet been formed, but his qualities such as bravery, justice, hatred, benevolence, wisdom and humor have been fully reflected. These qualities laid a solid foundation for Wu Cheng to shape the image of the Monkey King.
Among the various plays created by Yang Jingxian, the big scene before Xuanzang's westward journey was cleverly conceived. In the prosperous era of the Tang Dynasty, Wenchen and military generals gathered to see him off, and Tang Taizong personally escorted him. However, Yang Jingxian did not directly depict this scene, but adopted"Peasant Girl Narrative"successfully clarified the main line of the story, and at the same time hinted at more story connotations and stimulated more imagination of readers. The researchers found that Cao Xueqin also used this unique writing method in her later work, Dream of the Red Chamber.
In addition, Yang Jingxian's "Journey to the West" is not only a miscellaneous drama, but also embodies the transition from miscellaneous drama to legendary drama through writing skills, and has made outstanding contributions to the progress of the Ming Dynasty.
In Yang Jingxian's story, Sun Wukong is not the protagonist, although he is Xuanzang's apprentice, he maintains a certain relationship with these demons and monsters, and sometimes even gives them advice. His Monkey King is not an omnipotent god, but a man of flesh and blood, affection and righteousness. He was so real, as if he were alive.
