St. Petersburg, 25 Dec (Xinhua) -- Leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries held a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission in St. Petersburg, Russia, on the evening of 25 December, and signed a declaration on economic development and other documents, pointing out the direction for further deepening cooperation.
Russia's Vladimir Putin, Belarus' Lukashenko, Kazakhstan's Tokayev, Kyrgyzstan's Zhaparov, and Armenian Prime Minister Pashnyan attended the meeting. The parties discussed the results of cooperation in the Eurasian Economic Union over the past few years and prospects for future cooperation, signed a declaration on the economic development plan of the Union up to 2030 and 2045, a document on the main directions of the Union's international activities in 2024, and a document on the main guidelines of the Union's macroeconomic policy for 2024-2025.
At the meeting, Putin said that the Declaration on Economic Development is a new programmatic document that specifies specific measures to strengthen cooperation in key sectors and identifies new areas of interaction. He said that in the nearly ten years since the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union, the amount of ** between member countries has almost doubled, and the total GDP of each country has increased from 1$6 trillion to $2$5 trillion.
In addition, representatives of the five member states of the Eurasian Economic Union signed a comprehensive liberal agreement with representatives of Iran** on the same day, replacing the provisional ** agreement implemented since 2019.
On January 1, 2024, Armenia will succeed Russia in the rotating chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union for 2024.
