Tsimikas: Despite the pressure of competing with Robertson, the team has always believed that I can succeed.
Tsimikas admitted in a recent interview that he did have a gap with Robertson when he moved to Liverpool in 2020. The Greek left-back was expected to come to Anfield to compete with Robertson for a starting spot, but he had little chance of winning.
Tsimikas made just two Premier League appearances in his first season with the Reds, one of which was a three-minute appearance in garbage time in Liverpool's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City. It wasn't until his second season that he began to make more appearances in the league.
He admits it's mainly because he's hard to match Robertson's contribution to Liverpool. Tsimikas spoke about it this week, saying he was able to succeed because Liverpool were willing to give him time and confidence.
According to the Mirror, Tsimica said: "When I came here to compete with Robertson, I struggled a bit and I needed to spend more time adapting to the new environment. ”
But the club still believed in me, even if I didn't get a chance to play. Everyone needs time to find their best, but you have to enjoy every minute as much as possible at the club. ”
Robertson has set the bar extremely high for Liverpool's left-back position. He can do almost anything – both offensively and defensively. Not to mention his ability to tirelessly run back and forth on the flanks.
Indeed, Liverpool have always believed in Tsimikas to make a similar contribution, and they have shown their trust in the Greek full-back. Even after a near-disastrous debut season for Tsimikas, they have held on to that belief and now the Reds are reaping the rewards.
With Robertson out injured, Tsimikas is gradually becoming a regular starter in the team and has made a significant contribution to Liverpool's climb to the top three in the league. His two assists against Brentford are a prime example of this – he has become a very effective player for the Reds.
Liverpool have proven their choice right and Tsimikas deserves the credit he deserves for his breakthrough after taking on a challenge that seemed impossible to succeed.
