Hello everyone, I'm Childe.
On the winter solstice of December 22, Zhu Ling, a victim of Tsinghua's "thallium poisoning", passed away, failing to survive the longest dark night of the year.
On this day, it has only been nearly a month since her 50th birthday, November 24, and it has been an extremely long 29 years since she was poisoned in 1994.
In the past 29 years, Zhu Ling, a talented woman from Tsinghua University, had to face the fate of being blind, paralyzed, and only 7 years old due to thallium poisoning.
Previously, Gongzi also wrote an article "29 years ago, Zhu Ling, a talented girl from Tsinghua University, was poisoned and paralyzed, why is she still at large?".tells her story.
In the past 29 years, Zhu Ling's parents, Wu Chengzhi and Zhu Mingxin, have endured great pain, have been taking care of Zhu Ling, and even worried that if they die, who will take care of their little daughter?
Who would have thought, but it was a white-haired man who sent a black-haired man. Now, they will face the same long period of regret, longing and loss of their daughter. In 1989, they also sadly sent away their eldest daughter Wu Jin, who fell off the cliff mysteriously.
The day after Zhu Ling's death, Yan Feng, a professor of the Department of Chinese at Fudan University, announced the news of Zhu Ling's death:
Zhu Ling is gone. Thinking of her thirty years of unwarranted disasters, unspeakable suffering, and nowhere to find justice, my heart is sad and indignant, and it is difficult to calm down. Some of her Tsinghua classmates have been trying their best to take care of her and her parents, and there is both hate and love in the world. May the departed rest in peace and the living be in peace. ”
Sympathy for the plight of Zhu Ling's family, regret for failing to catch **, regret for lack of technology at that time, ......Popping up again in the comment section.
As long as Zhu Ling's case remains unsolved for a day, it will be a major unsolved case that has had the longest impact since the Internet began in China.
On December 11, 1994, Zhu Ling, a student of the Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University, was playing "Guangling San" solo in the ** hall of Beijing, which amazed the audience.
Only the parents in the audience knew that Zhu Ling was tormented by a "strange disease", with severe abdominal pain in his stomach, and he couldn't eat for three consecutive days, and before that, he had occasional blindness, massive hair loss, joint pain and other adverse symptoms.
So on the second day of the performance, Zhu Ling went home, and her parents took her around to seek medical treatment, but they couldn't find out**. After a period of hospitalization and recuperation, Zhu Lingjian's condition improved, and he returned to school in February 1995.
But in the second week after returning to school, Zhu Ling fell ill again, still suffering severe pain all over his body, and his newly grown broken hair also fell out. In the past few days, she has only stayed in Tsinghua University for ** days, and her range of activities is very limited, usually resting in the dormitory.
Her parents took her to see a doctor, and Director Li Shunwei received the consultation, and he pointed out that Zhu Ling's symptoms were very similar to thallium poisoning.
Thallium is a heavy metal, colorless and odorless also has an incubation period, after poisoning it takes a week or half a month to show symptoms, it was used to make rat poison, but because the toxicity is too strong, it has been banned for a long time, and it is difficult for ordinary people to come into contact with it.
However, Tsinghua University issued a certificate that Zhu Ling had not been exposed to thallium salts in the laboratory, and the strict management of chemical drugs, coupled with the fact that the hospital did not have the conditions for this test, temporarily ruled out the suspicion of thallium poisoning.
Zhu Ling's condition took a turn for the worse, and his life was almost drained by the pain, and he fell into a five-month coma.
It was also at this time that her middle school classmate Pei Zhicheng came to visit Zhu Ling and posted her illness on the Internet.
In Pei Zhicheng's description, he studied in the Department of Mechanics of Peking University, and after graduating from middle school, he did not have much intersection with Zhu Ling, but in 1995, at a class reunion, he learned that Zhu Ling was ill.
And when he went to visit Zhu Ling, he really felt Zhu Ling's miserable situation: the once beautiful and confident girl is now full of tubes, as if she has come to the edge of life.
Sad, he really wanted to do something for Zhu Ling, and by chance, he remembered that his roommate Cai Quanqing was helping Professor Chen Yaosong to do an Internet experiment, and maybe he could use the Internet to ask doctors all over the world for help.
In fact, Zhu Ling's case was China's first case of Internet help, when the Internet was just emerging in China, and it was still dial-up to the Internet with ** lines, and Internet bigwigs such as Ma Yun and Ma Huateng basically came into contact with the Internet around 1995.
Pei Zhicheng wrote a letter asking for help to be translated into English by an American friend, and then went to the department's computer room with Cai Quanqing to send it to some of the world's most famous medical forums.
Originally, I had the mentality of giving it a try, but fortunately, within ten days, emails from the medical community in various countries came like snowflakesOf the 1,635 letters replied, about 30% of doctors identified thallium poisoning.
While amazed that China also has the Internet, Chinese students promised to help send letters to doctors or mentors they knew.
Li Xin, a Chinese student studying telemedicine in the United States, and John Aldis, a former medical officer at the U.S. Embassy in China, also contacted some more authoritative doctors in the United States to see Zhu Ling's case.
During this period, many people in China also helped Zhu Ling.
At that time, there were only three 256k links to China's Internet, which were at Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the University of Chemical Technology.
When Pei Zhicheng and others were questioned about how to contact foreign countries on a large scale, Professor Chen Yaosong even spoke for them, saying that he had something to do.
Some students from Peking University and Tsinghua University have taken the initiative to ask for emails, and some people have saved emails in the database to mark which emails are more worth paying attention to. Someone will help you scan your email in English so you don't misread important information.
However, when they integrated the thallium poisoning data to the hospital, the hospital insisted that "the possibility of thallium poisoning has been ruled out".
John Aldis and other doctors questioned this, and a New York expert even contacted Pei Zhicheng's mother, saying that *** did not have the ability to detect thallium poisoning and could not categorically rule out thallium poisoning.
This remark made Zhu Ling's family have a plan to do a laboratory test, but there is a rule that the patient's sample cannot be taken out.
It was not until April 28, 1995, with the secret help of a young doctor at Xiehe that Zhu Ling's parents finally collected urine, cerebrospinal cord, blood and other samples and sent them to the laboratory of the Beijing Institute of Labor Health and Occupational Disease Prevention and Control.
Speaking of which, this laboratory is not a thallium poisoning testing laboratory, but a piece of equipment purchased by Professor Chen Zhenyang, who has studied thallium poisoning, was placed in that laboratory in his early years, and it was Zhu Mingxin's colleague who gave Zhu Ling's family Chen Zhenyang's business card.
Professor Chen Zhenyang resisted the pressure and immediately did a laboratory test, but the result was unexpected: "As soon as I tested, the machine came to an end, and the thallium content was thousands of times that of a normal person." ”
With such a large amount, it is difficult to take or touch it by mistake, and it is very painful to commit suicide with thallium poisoning, and Professor Chen Zhenyang judged that it was poisoned by others.
Zhu Ling's life, because of the bright ushered in a turnaround, the American doctor proposed to use Prussian blue** Zhu Ling.
Who would have thought that Zhu Ling's family had invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to ** Zhu Ling, but what was really useful was 4 yuan a Prussian blue reagent.
Unfortunately, it was discovered too late and had already caused irreversible damage to the body.
21-year-old Zhu Ling was stuffed into a disabled body:She was nearly blind in both eyes, paralyzed in her lower body, almost non-existent in her ability to speak, and her intelligence had deteriorated to the level of a child of six or seven years old.
Because this is an epic Internet request for help, CCTV and other **** reported on it, which sparked heated discussions across the country.
In addition to sighing, everyone was even more angry: Who wants to put Zhu Ling to death?
After it was determined that Zhu Ling had been poisoned with thallium, Zhu Ling's parents filed a report with the security department of Tsinghua University on the evening of April 28, 1995.
Professor Xue Fangyu, who is in charge of student work in the Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University, also told Zhu Ling's roommates to take good care of Zhu Ling's belongings.
On May 7, 1995, the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau began a formal investigation. But just the day before ** was about to block Zhu Ling's dormitory, a strange theft occurred in Zhu Ling's dormitory:
The money was scattered all over the place, and the only thing missing was some toiletries used by Zhu Ling, and it was likely that someone destroyed the evidence.
Key physical evidence was missing, and the investigation was deadlocked, and later, according to the investigation, the suspect Sun Wei was locked, and she was believed to beThe only person who was able to legally access thallium salt and approach Zhu Ling.
Sun Wei is Zhu Ling's roommate, because they sleep on the top bunk together, both of their fathers work in the ** bureau, and they soon became friends. It's just that after both of them joined the school folk band, Sun Wei was only Zhu Ling's replacement, and the relationship became estranged.
In October 1995, the police also revealed to Zhu Ling's parents that there was already a "target", and there was only "a layer of window paper, which would break if you poke it", and asked them to wait for good news.
But the good news didn't wait. In August 1998, after 8 hours of interrogation of Sun Wei, it was announced that Sun Wei had been dismissed.
Due to the strong family background of Sun Wei on the Internet, he once tried to protect Sun Wei, netizens suspected that Sun Wei's exoneration was boring, and Pei Zhicheng also published an article with his real name in 2002, saying that it was almost believed that Sun Wei was **.
It just so happened that the Tianya Forum was very popular in those years, and on November 30, 2005, a netizen published "Heavenly Jealousy: The Poisoning of Tsinghua Girls Ten Years Ago" to re-mention the case, and a large number of netizens followed the post reasoning, and Sun Wei was repeatedly mentioned.
For this reason, Sun Wei had to issue clarification statements in the Tianya community on December 30, 2005 and January 13, 2006 with the ID "Sun Wei Statement". During this period, roommates and some classmates helped Sun Wei argue with netizens.
However, under the questioning of his classmate Tong Yufeng and a large number of netizens, Sun Wei not only did not clear his suspicions, but the people who supported Sun Wei were also named the "Thallium Party".
Netizens used the personal information of the "thallium party" on the Internet, including two classmates in the United States, who were also blocked by netizens from applying for green cards.
A hacker who claimed to be "chasing thallium" hacked into the email addresses of Sun Wei and others, and found that Sun Wei had instructed some classmates on how to post in support of him. Later, "chasing thallium" sent the content of the email out.
However, just as the discussion was raging, on January 19, 2006, the Tianya community restricted the discussion of Zhu Ling's case.
A person in charge of the Tianya community was puzzled: "How can Tianya take the initiative to ban such a big hot spot?"But the answer is unknown.
It is worth mentioning that Tong Yufeng set up a meeting to help Zhu Ling in 2004, and in 2006, he also proposed to jointly submit a letter to the National People's Congress to re-investigate the case, but in the end it was not resolved, and Sun Wei changed his name and date of birth in 2006 in an attempt to disappear.
Although the Tianya community has reduced the discussion of the case, the society has not forgotten Zhu Ling.
In 2007, the documentary "Zhu Ling's Twelve Years" was broadcast, which was CCTV spent a year interviewing Zhu Ling's family, and after more than 40 revisions, it was able to pass the review and broadcast, making Zhu Ling the focus again.
In 2013, there was a poisoning case at Fudan University, and it was poisoning in the dormitory, and thallium was used, and ** Lin Senhao was quickly brought to justice, unlike Zhu Ling's case, which was still confusing, and a group of official media asked about Zhu Ling's case.
may not be able to stand the controversy of **, Sun Wei responded in Tianya for the third time: "I want to bring the real murderer to justice more than anyone else", which received millions of clicks, but did not gain the trust of netizens.
Even because Weibo set the keywords related to Zhu Ling's case as sensitive words, netizens fought back.
After they learned that Sun Wei was married to an American and ran to the United States, they launched a ** letter to the White House official on Weibo, asking the White House official to investigate and expel Sun Wei. Later, Sun Wei moved to Australia.
It was also in this year that Zhu Ling's family was admitted to Xiaotangshan Hospital and faded out of people's field of vision, so that they could devote themselves to taking care of Zhu Ling.
Zhang Lili, as Zhu Ling's Tsinghua alumnus and Sun Wei's junior high school tablemate, called on everyone in the alumni group to set up the Hualin ** Association to help Zhu Ling as much as possible, and he also managed Zhu Ling We are together.
The Weibo account "Help Zhu Ling" will also share Zhu Ling's recent situation and public donation details, and each Weibo has the concern of netizens.
Zhu Ling's family, and the people who support them, wrote a "Alive" that belongs to them.
Even if Zhu Ling passes, her story should not be forgotten because of this, and everyone is still regretting and questioning, just like people have been mentioning this matter continuously for the past 29 years.
When we think of Zhu Ling, in addition to the regrets that we can't let go, we can also feel the warmth generated during this period.
Li Chunguang, the former ** lawyer in Zhu Ling's case, said: I hope to continue to pay attention to the case itself, especially procedural issues, and it is feasible to restart the case.
Behind the tragedy of Zhu Ling's family is the relay of an era, say goodbye to Zhu Ling, remember Zhu Ling.
