Zhejiang Normal University established the first African regional national school in China

On December 12, the inauguration ceremony of the first regional country studies department of Chinese universities, the "African Regional Country Studies Division of Zhejiang Normal University", was held on the campus of Zhejiang Normal University. This is also the first department established in the 67-year history of the school.

As an academic governance institution, the Faculty of African Regional Country Studies of Zhejiang Normal University aims to deeply realize the resource integration of relevant departments in the university, promote interdisciplinary integration, improve internal management efficiency, form comprehensive advantages of disciplines, and promote the high-quality development of African regional country studies disciplines with the purpose of "big problems and great integration".

On the same day, Liu Hongwu, Secretary-General of the Regional Country Studies Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degree Committee and Dean of the Institute of African Studies (African Regional Country College) of Zhejiang Normal University, released the first batch of results of the African Regional Country Studies Series of Zhejiang Normal University, which involved the "Contemporary African Country Geography Series", "African Law Translation and Research Series", "African Regional Country Studies Textbook Series", "African Regional Country Studies Translation Series", "African Discipline Education Research Series", "African Cultural Development and China-Africa People-to-People Exchange Research Series". He has published 23 books, including A Brief Introduction to China-Africa People-to-People Exchanges, African Union Law, Modern History of Uganda, Research on the Development Process of Higher Education in Nigeria, and 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations: A History of China-Nigeria Exchanges.

At the subsequent seminar on the discipline construction of regional country studies, nine well-known domestic experts and think tank representatives conducted in-depth discussions on the discipline construction and development of regional country studies with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

In 2007, Zhejiang Normal University established the Institute of African Studies, with Professor Liu Hongwu, a nationally renowned expert in African studies, as the founding dean. At present, Zhejiang Normal University has built a national-level platform as the guide, with international, school-local and intra-university collaboration, and the cultivation of African studies and talents in Africa has been continuously deepened and expanded. In 2023, Zhejiang Normal University will be selected as one of the 15 units in the country that urgently need to cultivate high-level talents in the country for the implementation of regional country studies, becoming the only local university selected.
