Von der Leyen's visit to China was originally a matter that China and Europe had already negotiated, and von der Leyen had previously said that she would visit China with sincerity, but she did not expect that before coming to China, she suddenly made an "ultimatum" to China: she must agree to two major demands. Is this a sitting-and-the-ground price hike?
On Monday, China announced that on December 7, EU leader Ursula von der Leyen will come to China and meet with China's top leaders to discuss matters related to China-EU economic and trade cooperation. It is worth noting that von der Leyen's visit to China can be said to be "not a good comer".
According to the Russian Sputnik news agency, people familiar with the matter said that von der Leyen plans to make a request to the Chinese side in person when meeting with China's top leaders, hoping that the Chinese side can take measures to put pressure on the 13 Chinese companies that cooperate with Russia, otherwise the EU will impose sanctions.
In addition, von der Leyen also said that in the next period of time, a new round of negotiations on the Ukraine issue will be held, and it is hoped that China can return to the negotiating table and resume peaceful and cooperative relations with Ukraine.
It must be said that not long ago, the Chinese side and the European Union have just reached an agreement, and the two sides agreed to meet on relevant matters in the fields of economic and trade cooperation, von der Leyen also stressed that she will visit China with sincerity, and also said that the main purpose of the meeting with the Chinese leader is to change the current "unfair competition" relationship between China and the EU.
But I didn't expect that von der Leyen "sat on the ground" before leaving, and put forward two requirements for China, even if I take a step back and be pragmatic, for the time being, look at the two major requirements she put forward, the second request seems to be understandable, is the first request a bit too much?
Asking the Chinese side to put pressure on 13 companies means that Chinese companies are not allowed to cooperate with Russia? What does the EU's joint sanctions against Russia have to do with China? There is also no need for Chinese companies to act according to the rules of the EU sanctions against Russia.
Taking 10,000 steps back, the cooperation between Chinese enterprises and Russia is carried out on the basis of abiding by relevant international laws and regulations, without harming the interests of either party, there is no problem, and it is China's freedom and right to choose who to cooperate with and how to cooperate.
Of course, von der Leyen has another purpose, that is, she wants to force China to choose a side and try to pull China together to sanction Russia. Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, China's position has always been to call on all parties to immediately cease fire and stop the fighting to avoid the spread of the humanitarian crisis, and has not provided any military and financial assistance to either side.
To put it more broadly, the EU has another purpose, which is to undermine relations between China and Russia. After all, after the United States and Western countries imposed joint sanctions on Russia, Russia chose the strategy of "looking eastward", shifted the focus of economic development to the Far East, and naturally strengthened cooperation with China, and the total amount of China and Russia this year exceeded 200 billion US dollars, and the settlement rate in local currency reached 95%.
In this way, in their opinion, the strategic effect of the joint sanctions against Russia by the EU and the United States has been discounted, and von der Leyen, of course, is not happy, so she made this excessive request before coming to China. I don't know how much sincerity von der Leyen said about visiting China with sincerity?
Judging from the current international situation, the EU's request for Chinese companies to stop cooperating with Russia is not beneficial to resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and is nothing more than to satisfy the selfish desires of the EU and the United States.
The EU has called for China to solve the Ukraine crisis, and it is better to stop all kinds of military aid to Ukraine first, rather than turning its attention to China.
