Wearing glasses must be myopia?Astigmatism: Don t be if I don t exist!

Compared to the well-known myopia.

Not much is known about astigmatism.

In fact, astigmatism is also very common.

And it's more annoying than myopia.

To know. Myopia is simply not being able to see far away.

Astigmatism is not clear when it is far and near.

This is especially true for people with uncorrected high astigmatism.

The world in the eyes may be "distorted".

01 What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism, like myopia, is a refractive error.

The formation of astigmatism is mainly related to the curvature of the cornea. Because the curvature and thickness of the cornea in patients with astigmatism are uneven, light cannot be accurately focused on the retina after passing through the cornea, and it is manifested as blurry vision from far and near.

Normally, the surface of the cornea (the refractive interface of the eyeball) is spherical. We can imagine a regular "ping-pong ball" surface, with the same surface curvature in different sections, so that parallel rays of light can be accurately projected onto the retina after passing through the cornea and lens.

For astigmatism patients, the surface of the cornea is more like an "egg", and the surface curvature of different sections is uneven. When parallel rays pass through the cornea, the focal length of the eyeball on different axes is different, resulting in the inability to focus on the same point on the retina when seeing, and the image is blurred, which is astigmatism.

02 What causes astigmatism?

Most astigmatism is congenital and relatively stable, unlike myopia, which is associated with excessive close-up use. However, there are also a small number of astigmatism related to acquired factors.

Congenital factors: astigmatism is mainly a congenital formation and has nothing to do with reading books and computers for a long time. Some people develop astigmatism during embryonic development, and there is no way to prevent it.

Acquired factors: trichiasis, eye rubbing, eye trauma, or corneal damage caused by keratitis, corneal scarring, etc.

Whether it is congenital or acquired astigmatism, if the prescription is too high and not corrected, symptoms such as blurred vision, eye strain, dizziness, and headache will occur.

For children who are in the period of visual development, astigmatism may also lead to amblyopia or myopia progressing rapidly, which will have an impact on vision that is difficult to recover, and we must pay attention to it.

03 Three ways to correct astigmatism

Low-degree astigmatism generally does not affect vision and can not be corrected, but if symptoms such as vision loss and visual fatigue occur, correction should also be considered.

If the astigmatism is greater than 100 degrees, especially for children and adolescents with high astigmatism, it must be corrected in time to avoid serious impact on vision.

01 Eyeglasses.

Optical correction with eyeglasses is the main way to correct astigmatism. In order to ensure the accuracy of the prescription of glasses, you should go to a regular ophthalmology institution for medical optometry and glasses.

02 **Glasses.

For patients with astigmatism who are not comfortable with spectacles, they may consider wearing glasses with astigmatism correction.

*Glasses are divided into soft**glasses and hard**glasses, choose the right one for yourself. In order to avoid eye infections, the three lens care steps of cleaning, disinfection and protein removal need to be done strictly.

03 Corrective surgery.

For some patients with severe astigmatism, it may be difficult to achieve a good vision correction effect by wearing glasses, and the glasses are more troublesome in cleaning, so surgical correction can be considered.

The main ways to surgically correct astigmatism are laser surgery and intraocular lens implantation surgery, which have requirements and restrictions on astigmatism, ocular and other conditions, and you can choose the surgical method that suits you under the evaluation of the doctor.
