NVIDIA will release a Chinese special version of the graphics card equipped with AD102-250 on the 28th, called GeForce RTX 4090D, to replace the flagship GeForce RTX 4090 that is restricted from exports.
In order to solve this problem, the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card for NVIDIA's high-end game market was limited due to the export ban in the United States on October 17 this year, and it was decided to develop a customized GeForce RTX 4090 D graphics card by reducing some specifications to comply with the requirements of U.S. export controls, and continue to sell it in the market.
Due to the latest U.S. export controls,The NVIDIA RTX 4090 D needs to meet the combined computing performance (TPP) limit of 4,800, and the RTX 4090 has a TPP of 5,286 for both FP8 and FP16, which is about 10% more than the limit
Normally, NVIDIA needs to cut the specifications of the RTX 4090 appropriately, the most direct is to reduce the number of configurations such as SM, Tensor, and CUDA, but the RTX 4090D needs to maintain a certain distance from the RTX 4080 Super.
NVIDIA said it would continue to comply "fully" with the rules, and that it does provide services to Chinese customers in Singapore, including ByteDance, Tencent's international cloud business and Alibaba Group.
According to the filing documents, NVIDIA's sales to customers in Singapore accounted for about 15% of the overall revenue.
In addition,NVIDIA has a market share of more than 90% in China's AI chip market with a total size of up to $7 billion, so NVIDIA will not give up easily
NVIDIA's new special version of the chip will be mass-produced by the end of 2023 at the earliest, and the RTX 4090 D and RTX 4090 both use TSMC's N4 process.
