Thailand's Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Saita held talks with FIFA President Gianni Infantino on 20 September on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where the two sides exchanged views on strengthening sports cooperation between Thailand, ASEAN and FIFA, as well as advancing the bid for the 2034 World Cup.
Saita pointed out that Southeast Asia is a region with great potential for the development of football, and Thailand has always been committed to nurturing youth football talents, and thanked FIFA for its support and assistance in this regard. He also invited FIFA to further deepen its cooperation with ASEAN countries, saying that the ASEAN region is ready to bid for the 2034 World Cup and showcase the charm of football in Southeast Asia.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino welcomed Saita's invitation and said that FIFA is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Thailand-ASEAN region to jointly promote the development of football in the region. He also invited Saita to attend the 74th FIFA Congress in Thailand next May, the first time Thailand has hosted the conference and the first country in the region to host the conference, which will be attended by representatives from 211 countries and regions around the world.
It is reported that Thailand and ASEAN countries have reached a consensus to jointly bid for the 2034 World Cup, which will be the first bid for the World Cup in Southeast Asia and the first World Cup jointly bid by multiple countries in the history of FIFA.
