Nev Ehir province includes not only the charming city of Nevsehir but also Cappadocia. Cappadocia, whose name means "land of beautiful horses" in ancient times, is one of the most intriguing regions in Turkey.
Places to visit in Nevsehir
The unmissable historical attractions of Nevşehir Province are undoubtedly the Gréme National Park and the Cappadocia rock sites, which were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985. These sites have a beauty unique to Turkey: the tuff soil formed by the lava and ash of Mount Hassan, Mount Elciyes and Mount Ülu millions of years ago has taken on a peculiar shape under the long-term erosion of wind and rain. These natural structures, which we call "fairy chimneys", are an integral element of the region's landscape.
Cappadocia is shrouded in mystery, with its idyllic fairy chimneys, cave hotels and impressive valleys, as well as villages and attractions such as Ürgüp, Greme, Uhisar and Ortahisar, as well as Derinkuyu and underground towns carved into solid rock, which are undoubtedly worth seeing.
We strongly recommend adding one or more dungeons to your list of places to visit in Nevsehir, and you can choose to visit one or more of the dungeons in the Cappadocia region, such as Kaymakl, Derinkuyu, Zkonak, Tatlarin, Maz, Zlüce and Sivasa G k Etoprak.
The Kemakler Underground City, carved into the tuff, dates back to the Hittite era and is nearly three thousand years old. Spread over eight floors, this sprawling dungeon features rooms and areas suitable for any community, including dormitories and public halls, wine cellars, water cellars, wells, and churches. Many of the underground passages have large round stones that are used to seal off rooms and tunnels against intruders.
The Güllüdere valley is located between Gorem and Çavusin, and there is a walking trail in the valley with a wonderful view of the fairy chimneys. Therefore, the valley is considered a priority stop among the tourist attractions of Nevsehir.
In the Güvercinlik Valley, you can see pigeons perched in the picturesque "pigeon houses" carved into the rocks, which is a pleasant way to spend quality time in Nevşehir. There is also a 4,100-metre-long hiking trail in the Güwischenlik Valley.
As the take-off point for many famous hot air balloon tours in Cappadocia, the Love Valley at an altitude of 4,900 meters presents a fairytale landscape full of spectacular fairy chimneys and other rock structures. The Valley of Love is also known for its fantastic sunset views and is one of the top places to visit in Nevsehir.
The Kyzyl River is known to be the longest river in Turkey. The beautiful district of Avanos is built along the banks of the river and is considered the cultural and artistic center of the Nevşehir province. Visitors can observe the most authentic pottery production and carpet weaving in the Avanos district, one of Nevsehir's top attractions. In addition, nearby are the Zelve Valley, the Rahipler Valley, the Zkonak Underground City and the Saruhan Car**Anserai.
While visiting Cappadocia's beautiful Ihlara Valley may take a little more effort than usual, it's worth it. Located at a distance of 85 km from Goreme, the Ihlala Gorge is undoubtedly a must-visit in Nevşehir. There are walking and hiking trails in the gorgeous gorge, as well as dozens of rock-carved churches and other buildings. It should be noted that one of the routes down the valley requires a steep staircase, but once you have descended, you will be greeted by a paradise on earth.
The Zelve Pa Aba Lar Archaeological Site, located 5 km from Avanos and 1 km from Pasabaral, is open to visitors daily from 08:00 to 17:00. The archaeological site of Zerva Pasabarar is home to the highest concentration of the famous fairy chimneys of Cappadocia and a must-visit in the province of Nevşehir. Zelvi, which consists of three valleys, is also home to the churches of Bal Kl, Üzümlü and Geyikli, which are of great significance to the apostolists. In addition, the monasteries, tunnels and mills in the area are picturesque.
The town of Çavusin (*u in village) presents a welcoming atmosphere among the historical monuments of Nevsehir. Like many places in the Cappadocia region, Çavusin is characterized by fairytale chimneys, ancient churches, and historical buildings. We especially recommend the Çavušineschikaya Mosque, the Çavushin Church (*u in church), the Church of St. John the Baptist (St.).John the Baptist Church) and the Red Valley (K Z L Ukur Valley).
