As for Wang Meng's "Diagram of the Flood", there is no definite earliest document. However, in the Yuan Dynasty calligraphy and painting document "Iron Net Coral", a work called "Washing Map" was included, and the author was Chen Rong. There are certain similarities between this work and Wang Meng's "Diagram of the Flood" in terms of subject matter and structure, both depicting the scene of literati and artists washing the platform. However, there is less detailed information about the work in Iron Net Coral, mentioning only the title of the painting, the author, and some of the poems.
In addition, in the Ming Dynasty calligraphy and painting book "Shigutang Calligraphy and Painting Collection", there is a work called "Turbulent Drawing", the author is the Ming Dynasty painter Wu Zhen. However, this work is far from Wang Meng's style, and in later studies, it is rarely associated with Wang Meng.
Due to the limitations of ancient calligraphy and painting documents, it is not yet possible to determine the earliest source of Wang Meng's "Diagram of the Flood".
There is no flow of orderly writings, and his works are often questionable.
In the historical art materials of the past dynasties, there is not much mention of the Yuan Dynasty painter Wang Meng's "Diagram of the Flood". At present, the information I understand is mainly focused on Wang Meng's other famous works, such as "Gezhichuan Migration Map", "Spring Mountain Reading Map", "Danshan Yinghai Map", "Qingbian Seclusion Map" and so on. Of course, this does not mean that the book is not important or worth studying. Regardless of its authenticity, compared with Wang Meng's other works, its status and influence in the history of art may be slightly inadequate.
Wang Meng (1308-1385), known as Shuming, was a native of Huzhou (now Wuxing, Zhejiang). He was one of the four masters of the Yuan Dynasty and was good at landscape painting. His painting style is unique, and he has been influenced by Zhao Mengfu, Wang Wei, Dong Yuan, Ju Ran and others, forming the characteristics of heavy mountains and long pine trees.
Although the status of "Turbulence" in the history of art is not as high as that of other works, as Wang Meng's questionable painting, it still has a relatively high artistic value. The delicate brushwork, rich colors and unique compositions displayed in the paintings all highlight the charm of Wang Meng's landscape paintings. Therefore, for the study of Wang Meng's artistic style and the development of landscape painting in the Yuan Dynasty, "Turbulent Pictures" still has a certain reference value.
