EH36 Marine and Offshore Engineering Steel Introduction.

EH36 is a high-quality steel for marine and offshore engineering, which is widely used in the manufacture of large ships, offshore oil platforms, liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks and other fields. This article will introduce the characteristics, manufacturing process, application fields and future development of EH36 steel in detail.

First, the characteristics of EH36 steel.

EH36 steel is a high-strength, high-toughness, low-alloy steel plate, and its yield strength and tensile strength have reached more than 360MPa. Compared with other marine and offshore steels, EH36 steel has the following advantages:

1.Good welding performance: EH36 steel has a low carbon equivalent, and it is not easy to crack when welded at room temperature, and has good welding performance. This greatly reduces the difficulty of welding and improves the welding efficiency.

2.High strength and toughness: EH36 steel has undergone a special heat treatment process to have high strength and toughness. This steel is able to withstand large loads and impact forces, and has good fatigue resistance.

3.Good corrosion resistance: EH36 steel is galvanized or aluminized with good corrosion resistance. This greatly extends the service life of the steel and reduces maintenance costs.

Second, the manufacturing process of EH36 steel.

The manufacturing process of EH36 steel mainly includes smelting, rolling and heat treatment. Each link will be described in detail below:

1.Smelting: EH36 steel is smelted by electric furnace or oxygen converter, and the right amount of alloying elements is added to obtain the desired chemical composition and mechanical properties.

2.Rolling: The smelted ingots need to be rolled to achieve the desired thickness and width. During the rolling process, parameters such as temperature, rolling speed and deformation need to be controlled to ensure the quality and performance of the steel.

3.Heat treatment: Heat treatment is one of the key aspects of EH36 steel manufacturing, including heating, heat preservation and cooling. Through a reasonable heat treatment process, the required metallographic structure and mechanical properties can be obtained.

3. Application fields of EH36 steel.

EH36 steel is widely used in the following fields due to its excellent performance and wide applicability:

1.Shipbuilding: EH36 steel is mainly used in the manufacture of hull structures, decks and cabins of large ships. Its high strength and toughness can withstand large loads and impact forces, ensuring the safety and stability of the ship.

2.Offshore oil platforms: EH36 steel can be used to make equipment such as support structures, pipelines, and storage tanks for offshore oil platforms. Its good corrosion resistance and welding performance can meet the requirements of the offshore environment and ensure the safe operation of the oil platform.

3.LNG storage tanks: EH36 steel can be used to manufacture the main structure and stiffeners of LNG storage tanks. Its high strength and low-temperature toughness can withstand the impact of LNG at low temperatures, ensuring the safety and stability of the storage tank.

4.Other fields: EH36 steel can also be used in bridges, buildings, pressure vessels and other fields. Its good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance have been widely recognized.

Fourth, the future development of EH36 steel.

With the development and utilization of marine resources becoming more and more extensive, the demand for steel for ships and offshore engineering will continue to increase. As a high-quality steel for ships and offshore engineering, EH36 steel has broad prospects for future development. In the future, with the continuous progress of technology and the continuous expansion of application fields, the performance of EH36 steel will be further improved, providing better material support for the development of shipbuilding and offshore engineering.
