Xinhua News Agency (Xinhua) -- The 2024 Xiamen Marathon recently started, with Ethiopian runners winning the men's and women's championships, and Chinese runner Dong Guojian creating the best result for domestic runners in the event.
At 7:30 a.m. on the 7th, the race gun rang out, and several African runners quickly formed a leading group after starting, and when Chinese player Dong Guojian followed the leading group to about 8 kilometers, he was gradually pulled away. In the final two kilometres of the race, the men's race was between Ethiopia's Kebibe and Kenya's Kiruwa, with the former winning in 2:06:46 and Morocco's Gumri finishing third.
Dong Guojian finished the race with a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 38 seconds, setting a new record for the best domestic competition in Xiamen and Malaysia, and also won the championship of domestic competitors in this event.
In the women's group, Ethiopia's Mulisa and Morocco's Gardadi won the first and second places respectively, while China's Zhang Deshun finished in 2 hours, 26 minutes and 53 seconds to finish third.
Zhang Deshun ran 2 hours, 27 minutes and 55 seconds at the Hangzhou Asian Games to win the silver medal in the women's marathon. In this year's summer horse, she ran better results and handed in a satisfactory answer for her "first horse" of the new year. Zhang Deshun said after the race that finishing third gave him more confidence, and he will go all out to prepare for the Paris Olympic Trials, hoping to break through his personal best in future training.
The Xiamen Marathon is a World Athletics Platinum Label event and a China Marathon Gold Label event. This year's event only has a full marathon event, with a total of 30,000 runners participating and more than 13 pre-registers60,000, a record high.
