At the end of October, Chongqing was selected as the "City of Design" of the Global Creative Cities Network in 2023, officially becoming the fifth "City of Design" in China and the first in the western region, adding another "world-class business card" to Chongqing.
So, how can Chongqing further polish this golden signboard, highlight the advantages of design resources, enhance world popularity, and promote the integration and innovation of the design industry?On December 21, the "2023 Hinterland Wisdom Forum - Design and Design Capital" was held at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, and a number of experts, scholars and industry elites from all over the country provided intellectual impetus for the sustainable innovation and development of the city's industry.

The forum was co-sponsored by China Decoration Magazine, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Chongqing Industrial Design Association, Chongqing Manufacturing Design Federation, and jointly organized by the School of Design of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and the Visual Arts Research Institute. The theme, starting from their respective professional backgrounds, combined with cutting-edge theories and technological achievements, will carry out academic dialogues on how to seize the opportunities of the times, activate China's urban space in the intelligent era, and expand the future possibilities of Chinese design.
At the forum, Professor Fang Xiaofeng, deputy dean of the Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University and editor-in-chief of Decoration magazine, shared that the first cities in China to become the "design capital" - Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing are actually the most economically developed regions in China, and the driving force of the economy as the design capital is more obvious, but the rise of Chongqing design should be the driving force of local culture, and the empowerment of this culture will be further demonstrated in the future.
Duan Shengfeng, vice president and doctoral supervisor of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, said that Sichuan Fine Arts Institute has always adhered to the concept of "people's designers for the people" and is committed to cultivating people's designers. They always believe that the design of cultivating students must be combined with the major strategic layout of the country, serve the development of the local economy, and design for the better life of the people.

Zhang Yuxing, a researcher at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Shenzhen University, deputy director of the Benyuan Design Research Center, and founder of Qucheng Studio, shared his views on Shenzhen Design Week and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Urban Architecture Biennale as examples. In his view, the City of Design brand is not only a huge economic industry, but also closely related to everyone's life, rebuilding the culture of the present and even the culture of the future.
Professor Hang Jian, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the China Academy of Art and Doctoral Supervisor, shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence technology with the title of "The Meaning of "Ordinary People". He said that design has to face 80% of ordinary people's lives, and it is necessary to present a very different new system, and the AI era or AI will have an impact on our lives, and will produce new manifestations and thinking about design.
Professor He Renke, Dean of the School of Design and Art of Hunan University and doctoral supervisor, focused on the theme of "City and Design", combined with the experience of Changsha's construction as the first art city, and took Copenhagen, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, Bilbao and other cities as examples to understand the relationship between design and the city and the basic elements of humanized urban design.
