December 1, 2023 is the 36th World AIDS Day, with the theme of "Uniting Social Forces to Fight AIDS". In recent years, Guangzhou Customs has organized and carried out many publicity activities related to the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS, strengthened the health education of people entering and exiting the country by means of promotional videos and new publicity, publicized the knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and provided HIV/AIDS testing services at the Guangzhou International Travel Health Care Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Health Care Center") under the Guangzhou Customs, so as to mobilize all sectors of society to pay attention to and work together to fight AIDS and jointly safeguard the health and life safety of the people.

AIDS is a malignant infectious disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection with a high mortality rate. According to the 2023 Global AIDS Progress Report: The Road to Ending AIDS released by UNAIDS, there are currently 39 million people living with HIV worldwide, of which 29.8 million are receiving antiretroviral**, 1.3 million new HIV infections and 630,000 deaths from AIDS-related diseases in 2022.
In order to further promote the health promotion and education of international travel and the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS at ports, Guangzhou Customs has established and improved the HIV/AIDS monitoring system at ports, continuously strengthened laboratory testing capabilities, established a "1+N" testing network of HIV/AIDS confirmation laboratories and primary screening laboratories, regularly carried out HIV/AIDS prevention and control training and technical exchanges, actively carried out research on HIV/AIDS testing technology, and cooperated with professional institutions and enterprises in the field of public health inside and outside the customs system to promote scientific research and provide scientific and technological support for HIV/AIDS pre-control at ports.

In recent years, with the rapid development of international development, the number of people entering and leaving the port is increasing. In order to build a solid line of defense for port quarantine, Guangzhou Customs has continuously strengthened the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS at ports on the basis of strengthening the "common prevention of multiple diseases", and fully implemented the action plan for containment and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
On November 30, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Customs, a subsidiary of Guangzhou Customs, organized on-site health quarantine backbones and volunteers to carry out volunteer service activities for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS at the airport and port in the health quarantine hall and travel inspection and entry channel of the T2 terminal of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, and popularized the knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention and control to inbound and outbound passengers by posting publicity boards, distributing AIDS prevention and control brochures, and answering passengers' questions on the spot.
At the same time, we have strengthened the quarantine and supervision of microorganisms, human tissues, biological products, blood and other special items entering and leaving the country, so as to prevent the spread of HIV pathogens through special items. Yu Xiaomi, deputy chief of the third section of the first passenger inspection section of the customs of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, introduced that the customs also organized business backbones to go into communities and schools, and carried out comprehensive intervention work such as health education and mobilization testing to inbound and outbound passengers, community people, primary and secondary school students and other groups in the form of seminars and on-site interactions, and widely carried out publicity and education on AIDS prevention and control knowledge.
Since the beginning of this year, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport has carried out a total of 21 health promotion activities related to dengue fever, malaria and AIDS, distributed more than 3,500 health education materials, and provided more than 1,200 health consultations, covering more than 70,000 inbound and outbound passengers.
