The future of AI PCs

Mondo Technology Updated on 2024-01-30

On December 15, 2023, Intel released a new generation of processors with the biggest architectural change in four decades, the Core Ultra. The Core Ultra processor uses the first AI accelerator for use on the client, the "Neural Network Processing Unit NPU", which brings 25 times the energy efficiency of AI compared to the previous generation of processing platforms. At the same time, the release of Core Ultra also marks that the artificial intelligence technology based on large models has entered a new stage of development in the PC field, and the new track of the AI PC industry has also ushered in new opportunities and challenges.

Just 8 days before the release of Intel Core Ultra, the first AI PC Industry Forum was officially held at the Lenovo Future Center. At this year's Industry Forum, Lenovo and IDC jointly released the "AI PC Industry (China)** Wang Chuandong, Vice President of Lenovo Group and Chief Marketing Officer of Lenovo China, also released the AI PC Pioneer Action, officially announcing the first year of AI.

AI PCs will change from auxiliary tools to smart assistants, bringing users smarter and more efficient ways to work, learn, Xi and entertain. At this industry forum, Wang Chuandong, vice president of Lenovo Group and chief marketing officer of Lenovo China, introduced. In the face of the current wave of change in the new industrial revolution, Lenovo, as a leading full-stack intelligence manufacturer and the world's No. 1 PC brand, took the lead in launching the AI PC pioneer action and launched the terminal equipment of AI PC.

So, what is AI PC?First of all, AI PCs must have more powerful computing power, and secondly, more intelligent operation experience and richer applications can also bring more use scenarios to AI PCs.

We know that smart devices used CPUs and GPUs for computing in the past, but in the face of the current more complex computing needs based on large models, the addition of AI chips has brought NPU computing logic. At present, with Intel's Core Ultra bringing 34tops of computing power, it will bring more possibilities in desktop-level natural language processing, image and speech recognition and other application scenarios.

At the same time, with the popularization of AI PCs, the interaction between users and devices will be more diversified, and AI PCs can also understand user needs through AI recognition, so as to meet the different needs of different users.

In addition, AI PCs should also bring users richer AI applications, such as smart office, smart entertainment, smart home, etc. These apps can bring convenience to the user's daily life.

Of course, with the development of AI PC, the AI PC industry is bound to face many challenges. For example, the AI PC Industry (China)** pointed out that with the development of AI PC, issues such as industry standardization and ecological perfection will become important factors for the healthy development of the industry. In addition, "by 2027, the assembly ratio of AI PCs will increase rapidly and become the mainstream product in the PC market, accounting for 81% of the market share."

With the continuous development of artificial intelligence technology, the future of the AI PC industry is promising. According to IDC**, the global AI PC market size will reach $11 billion in 2023 and $23 billion by 2027. In the face of this huge market size, OEMs have deployed AI PC products. At the Intel Core Ultra press conference, Lenovo showed its two small new brands of AI PC, and after the meeting, ASUS also released its AI PC products, and it is understood that HP, Dell, and ACER are also actively laying out their AI PC products.

In the future, AI PCs will not only be in the fields of smart office, smart entertainment, and smart home, but also in education, medical care, urban transportation, and other fields. With the improvement of computing power and the maturity of large models, AI PCs will play an increasingly important role in people's daily lives.
