In 1985, a revolutionary military-themed film "The Decisive Battle of Huangqiao" was released nationwide, telling the story of the New Fourth Army troops destroying the Kuomintang diehard Han Deqin Department in the First Battle of Huangqiao.
Although the film was a large-scale production at the time and received a good response, one of the surprising and regrettable phenomena is that the film only mentions the ** marshal, but does not mention another equally famous general, Su Yu.
Su Yu and Marshal ** have had a relationship between superiors and subordinates for many years, and until the Liberation War, their tacit cooperation and military exploits reached their peak. However, in "The Decisive Battle of Huangqiao", the deputy of the ** marshal is not General Su Yu, but a person named "Gu Ying", and there is no such general in history.
It is reported that the choreographer has carried out artistic processing of Su Yu's image and does not use his real name. This is because the original draft of the film was not approved by the General Political Department, and General Wei Guoqing did not agree to publicize Su Yu publicly. At that time, the director of the General Political Department was none other than Wei Guoqing, the founding general of the People's Republic of China.
He believes that Su Yu was criticized by the ** conference in 1958, and the hat of the rightist has not been taken off, so it is not suitable to promote the image of real people in films that are released publicly. Therefore, there is a nondescript plot in the film: there is Mr. Chen in the movie, but there is no Su Yu.
This situation is regrettable, because since the ** marshal used his real name, why did General Su Yu have to use a pseudonym? In fact, many comrades wanted to rehabilitate Su Yu back then, believing that he had been treated unfairly. Su Yu also made many requests for rehabilitation to marshals such as *** before his death, and received verbal recognition and promises.
However, this matter was not resolved in the 80s, and it was stuck in the General Political Department, and the biggest obstacle was Wei Guoqing. After the death of Gan Weihan, the former deputy director of the General Political Department, a document requesting Su Yu's rehabilitation appeared in his briefcase, but it was not handed to the Military Commission, and he was suppressed by the General Political Department for many years.
Wei Guoqing was a subordinate of General Su Yu, and served as the commander of the Second Column of the East China Field Army and the military commander of the Northern Jiangsu Corps. Although Wei Guoqing had served as the director of the General Political Department and was able to promote Su Yu's rehabilitation, he did not help, or even opposed. According to Ju Kai, Wei Guoqing was estranged from Su Yu during his tenure as the commander of the Second Column.
Because he did not understand Su Yu's command style, his troops often fought blocking battles and rarely served as the main attacker, resulting in heavy troops and limited combat achievements. Therefore, Wei Guoqing has not changed his attitude towards Su Yu.
Su Yu did not believe in his lineage, but because he considered the odds and needs of the battle, so he often assigned the main attack task to the strongest column, such as the 9th column. Although Wei Guoqing's military achievements during the war were not as good as Ye Fei and Xu Shiyou, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as vice chairman of the National People's Congress and other deputy state-level cadres.
Ju Kai's recollections were only personal opinions, and Wei Guoqing's position and actual status did not give him the ability to prevent Su Yu's rehabilitation. Su Yu was finally restored to his reputation by the ** Military Commission in 1994, while Comrade Wei Guoqing died in 1989.
