In the news on December 10, South Korea's Hyundai Motor held a grand N Festival last night to celebrate its brilliant achievements in the field of racing in 2023. What's even more surprising is that Hyundai Motor unveiled the concept art of the IONIQ 5 EN1 Cup race car for the first time at the event, as well as some technical specifications. It is reported that the development of this car is expected to be completed in February 2024.
According to IT House's observations, the Ioniq 5 EN1 Cup race car will feature an aggressive aerodynamic package that includes huge air intakes, wide diffusers and rear wings, as well as 18-inch wheels and 280 680 R18 slick tyres. In addition, the car will feature six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers, racing-oriented suspension settings, a 70 mm lower body height, and enhanced battery pack with jacks, FIA-approved roll cages and six-point seat belts.
It is worth mentioning that the biggest change in the Ioniq 5 EN1 Cup car will be the weight reduction, which is expected to be 250 kg lighter than the road car. At the moment, as the car is still under development, the full details have not been officially revealed. However, according to officials, in order to reduce the weight of the car, the side and rear glass of the car will be made of polycarbonate material, and the weight of the car is expected to be reduced to about 2,109 kilograms.
In terms of chassis, the car will be replaced with adjustable suspension with ball joints to enhance the dynamic coherence of the body and chassis. And equipped with an isolation switch to prevent the battery from overheating. In addition, each team participating in the IONIQ 5 EN1 Cup will have their own simulated engine sound. The driver can also use the N e-shift function to simulate gear shifting, mimicking the shift pattern of an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Currently, the development of the IONIQ 5 EN1 Cup is still in full swing and development is expected to be completed in February 2024. If all goes well, it will be able to hit the track in May next year, becoming Korea's first all-electric racing race.
