Written on the front
Since I was a child, I have read countless famous quotes, but what really impressed me was Lin Gong's words. Of course, in order to deeply understand his famous words, it is necessary to look back at his magnificent life.
In his life, Lin Zexu has done many commendable things and contributed his life's work to the strength of the country. Among them, there are three things that are commendable.
(1) Leave a name in history
In the last years of the Qing Dynasty, with the influx of opium, Lin Zexu, who was the governor of Huguang at the time, was worried about the country and the people, and wrote to the imperial court to ask for a ban on smoking, but there was no response.
On June 3, 1839, Lin Zexu destroyed opium in public on Humen Beach, with a total amount of more than 200 catties, which was known as "Humen Tobacco Sales" in history.
(2) Border XinjiangOn June 28, 1841, Emperor Daoguang ordered Lin Zexu to be demoted to Ili, Xinjiang. When saying goodbye to his family, Lin Zexu wrote a famous sentence through the ages: If the country lives and dies, how can it be avoided because of misfortune.
Lin Zexu, who is nearly 56 years old, embarked on the road to Xinjiang. During his three-year stay in Xinjiang, Lin Zexu made important contributions to stabilizing Xinjiang and rejuvenating the borders.
Cultivating wasteland
In December 1844, Lin Zexu was ordered to go to various cities in Huijiang to survey the fields. The survey of wasteland, "Zhou Li returned to eight cities, about 20,000 miles", a total of more than 720,000 hectares of wasteland.
Establishment of water conservancy
During the Ili period, Lin Zexu organized the construction of the Longkou Project, which irrigated hundreds of thousands of hectares of farmland, and people called this canal "Lin Gong Canal". Now it is renamed "People's Canal", and the local people still call it "Huangqu" or "Lin Gong Canal".
Strengthen the plug defense
After the Opium War, in order to strengthen Tianjin's military strength, the Qing ** prepared to dismantle the general army of Ili Town and move to Tianjin. Keeping in mind the overall situation of strengthening Xinjiang's border defense, Lin Zexu drafted a memo and suggested that the general army of Ili Town should be retained.
After repeated weighing, the Qing Dynasty later approved the retention of the general army of Ili Town, which was of great strategic significance for consolidating the border defense of Xinjiang threatened by Tsarist Russian aggression.
(3) Xiangjiang night talkIn 1850, Zuo Zongtang, who was a cloth cloth at the time, met the national hero Lin Zexu in Xiangjiang. Because he was very excited, Zuo Zongtang stepped on the air and fell into the water when he landed on the deck.
On the night of the XiXi of the river breeze, the two long-time friends of the gods talked with candles until dawn. What they talked about the most was the very important issue of coastal defense and blockade defense in the Qing Dynasty.
Before leaving, Lin Zexu gave Zuo Zongtang two generous gifts. One is a large stack of translations and **, which are foreign documents and materials that he organized to translate during the smoking ban in Guangdong, which was later compiled by Wei Yuan into "Atlas of the Sea Kingdom". These materials laid the foundation for Zuo Zongtang to set up a Western-style school and establish a sailor in the future.
Another generous gift was the maps and documents collected by Lin Zexu in Xinjiang, hoping that he would be able to make great achievements in governing Xinjiang in the future. These materials played an important role in Zuo Zongtang's later quelling of the rebellion and the recovery of Xinjiang.
Lin's family motto
Lin Zexu, a national hero, once said a wise saying when talking about children's education: "If children and grandchildren are like me, what do they do with money, and they are virtuous and rich, they will lose their ambitions;."My children and grandchildren are not as good as me, what do I do with my money, and I am foolish and rich, and I will increase my faults. ”
This famous sentence later became the Lin family motto and was remembered by the children of the Lin family for generations. Although more than 100 years have passed, this famous sentence still has important practical significance for our family education.
(1) Financial education
Chinese have had a sense of distress since ancient times, so everyone has a common Xi - saving money is to prevent future emergencies.
In addition, most people are desperate to make money in the hope that they can leave a little more for their children and make life easier in the future. For a long time, I had similar considerations.
Usually reluctant to eat, reluctant to wear, a penny eager to break in half. However, if my child needs to buy something, such as a tablet, a bicycle, etc., I often spend a lot of money without blinking.
After reading this famous quote from Lin Gong, it changed my perception of money and made me start my children's financial education again.
(2) Moral education
Lin Zexu is upright, worried about the country and the people, and is himself a role model for children to learn and Xi. If the child is not angry, more money will become a burden.
It is more common for many rich second generations, because of the lack of proper moral education, to show off their wealth everywhere, and as a result, they lose their family wealth. Therefore, it is often said that there are no more than three generations of wealth, and this is the truth.
Parents are role models for their children. With a good moral foundation, children can resist the corrosion of copper odor and become winners in life.
(3) Long-term planning
Lin Gong's famous saying, the main influence on my family education is to learn long-term planning. Education is a hundred-year plan, and there is nothing more important to a family than a successful homeschooling.
First of all, cultivating children's earning ability is more important than leaving children with thousands of family wealth.
In the long run, it is better to teach a man to fish than to teach him to fish. Instead of spending a lot of time helping your child earn money, it is better to teach your child how to earn a living. When the child goes to the **, he can support himself.
Secondly, nurture the child to become a useful person to society. Lin Zexu believes that "if you are virtuous and rich, you will lose your ambition." Money can disorient a child and lose their fighting spirit. In today's more popular parlance, it is called "lying flat".
Illustrious descendants
Lin Zexu had three sons, namely Lin Ruzhou, Lin Congyi and Lin Gongshu. Although they did not leave a name in history like Lin Zexu, they also inherited their father's patriotic integrity, actively entered the office, and were honest and honest for the benefit of one party. The eldest son, Lin Ruzhou, was young and promising, Daoguang was eighteen years old, a high school scholar, and an official to the "Hanlin Academy".
The second son, Lin Congyi, once left his hometown with his father and went to Xinjiang, and took care of Lin Zexu until his death. Later, with his own efforts and ability, he became an official and prepared for coastal defense.
The third son, Lin Gongshu, with his own ingenuity, was recommended by the officials, and later became an official to supervise the imperial history.
Lin Moqing, the fifth-generation grandson of Lin Zexu, is a well-known diplomat and translator in China, also known as Ling Qing, who has participated in well-known ping-pong diplomatic incidents and has been elected president of the UN Security Council four times.
In addition, Lin Juemin, one of the 72 martyrs of Huanghuagang, and Lin Zexu are both from the Lin clan of Minhou, Fujian, and they are considered to be of the same clan. Lin Juemin, because of a "Letter to His Wife", is famous all over the world. At the same time, Lin Juemin is also the uncle of the talented woman Lin Huiyin.
Next, let's revisit the Lin family motto again: "If the children and grandchildren are like me, what do they do with the money, and they are virtuous and rich, they will lose their ambitions; My children and grandchildren are not as good as me, what do I do with my money, and I am foolish and rich, and I will increase my faults. ”
