The 2023 "Industry Survey Report" was released
Distinguished leaders, guests, colleagues in the industry, friends, good morning!
Affected by the epidemic and other factors, the "TV Drama (Online Drama) Annual Industry Survey Report", which has been interrupted for two years, is ready to meet you again. Next, on behalf of the editorial board, I will release the "2023 China TV Drama (Online Drama) Industry Survey Report".
Looking at the overall trend of the development of the industry, 2023 is a year of important node significance - the industry has basically gotten rid of the epidemic troubles, and many ** platforms have achieved profits for many consecutive quarters by reducing costs and increasing efficiency, and "long-termism" has become the high-profile pursuit and practical action of mainstream production and broadcasting institutions, and the frequent release of excellent works has steadily increased the audience's overall satisfaction with domestic dramas. It can be said that after many difficulties and challenges such as the "cold winter" of film and television, the "basic disk" of industrial development has been stabilized. First of all, the turnaround of head platforms such as iQiyi and Tencent** and the predictable benign operation in the follow-up have basically ensured that the industry can produce and broadcast more than 100 high-quality dramas in a market-oriented manner every year; From the perspective of a more basic ecological environment, in recent years, under the continuous promotion of the competent authorities, undesirable phenomena such as traffic supremacy, ratings fraud, sky-high remuneration of celebrities, and exaggerated water injection of works have been effectively controlled, and the industry has returned to a healthy track and steadily entered a new journey of high-quality developmentAt the same time, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and local radio and television bureaus have followed the relevant policies and guidelines to promote the prosperity and development of TV dramas, and have made efforts from the source links such as topic selection and planning, ensuring the creation and production of related works such as theme publicity and cultural inheritance at a high level.
On the basis of the regular research content, this year's "Report" has carried out targeted information collection, observation, judgment and strategy on the scale and space, creation and operation, structure and mode of industrial development.
In terms of scale and space, there are the following important observations on the fundamentals of the industry:
First, there are obvious signs of TV drama production bottoming out and stabilizing. This year, the number of TV drama filming and production filings has rebounded for the first time in the past five years, and the investment and production of TV dramas have recovered well.
Second, the scale of the whole network broadcast has stopped falling, reflecting the development resilience of the long-term drama market.
Third, the "new track" of micro-short dramas has opened up the incremental space of the industry, and its follow-up trend and impact on the entire industrial ecology are more worthy of our continuous attention and in-depth exploration.
In terms of creation and operation, the following developments are indicated:
First, under the industry consensus of high-quality and diversification, long-** dramas are continuing to improve at all levels such as ratings reputation, genre breakthroughs, artistic texture, and innovative expression.
Second, cross-category, serialization, and full-link integration and linkage with IP as the starting point are becoming more and more frequent.
Third, the platform has ushered in a performance inflection point, but the growth is sluggish, and the focus is that the current turnaround is mainly due to "cost reduction" rather than "revenue increase", and how to expand new growth space has become the top priority.
Fourth, the operating conditions of the manufacturing industry have improved, but most institutions are still teetering on the edge of survival. Under the background of the industry's "reduced development" and content cost reduction, it is difficult for production institutions to achieve healthy development in the drama business, and they urgently need to expand new market space.
In terms of structure and model, this year's Report focuses on two fundamental and deep issues:
The first is the structural imbalance of the full broadcast of dramas and the shortcomings of public services. At present, more than 900 electric channels above the prefecture and city level, and more than 2,000 district and county-level financial centers or television stations are unable to purchase and broadcast new dramas, making about 3The huge audience of 300 million people does not have the opportunity to watch a large number of excellent dramas that are only broadcast on the Internet** platform, and they can only see about 10% of the more than 300 new dramas every year.
The second is the disadvantage of long-term ** dramas in the competition for revenue generation and the loss of factor resources. Under the current ecological model, no matter how good a drama series is, it cannot freely explode its real box office value like a movie, and the lack of revenue-generating capacity is leading to the gradual loss of various resource elements, including funds and talents, from the field of long-term dramas, weakening the basic guarantee for its sustainable and high-quality development.
As this year's research report focusing on industry and market development, the following extended topics are put forward on the occasion of its release:
First, to which range is the production capacity of TV dramas (online dramas) controlled to which is it more conducive to the sustainable prosperity and development of the industry?
Second, how to achieve growth in the consumption scale of long-term ** dramas?
Third, from the perspective of prosperity and development, how to deal with the practical difficulties caused by the shortage of funds in the industry?
Fourth, how to achieve effective dissemination as soon as possible and open a new era
Finally, on behalf of the editorial board, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the institutions and personnel who have supported and helped the research and preparation of this year's Report. Thank you!
