January 8, 2024 - New operator T. in SwedenLoop acquires a data center in Stockholm, Sweden.
The 800-square-metre (8,610-square-foot) facility is located in the heart of the city and will be modernized in 2024, the company said.
Further details about the facilities, the seller, and the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
t.Mathias Lindqvist, co-founder and principal engineer at Loop, said: "The acquisition of an existing data center is T.An important part of the loop building strategy. We see great potential in this facility and we will be able to reuse the existing infrastructure to be able to quickly provide managed services to our customers." At the same time, we also see good conditions to be able to generate all the heat generated by the data center to heat the property in which it is located. ”
t.Founded in 2021 and formerly known as Therma Loop, Loop provides a data energy hub. These immersion cooling facilities are designed to reuse excess heat into nearby buildings and connect their UPS systems to the grid.
The company opened its first data center – a 200-kilowatt facility – in December 2023 in an office building in the Sorrentina area north of Stockholm.
t.Loop was co-founded by CEO Stan Stymne, who previously worked for Norrenergi AB, a district heating company owned by the city of Stockholm. According to a Brekit interview, the company aims to launch 30 data centers totaling 30MW by 2026.
In a circular business model, it is important to maximize the use of resources at all levels. By establishing our data energy hubs in existing buildings and releasing waste heat, we have made tremendous strides in minimizing our impact on the climate," said Tsaid Cecilia Hjertzell, Head of Sustainability at Loop.
But our goal is much more than that, which means we are constantly evolving our philosophy to ensure that climate impacts based on Scopes 1-3 are as minimal as possible. For many of our customers, IT represents an increasing climate burden, and we want to do our best to ensure that our customers can continue to digitize while reducing CO2 emissions. ”
