According to the U.S. "Wall Street" on December 26, the world's largest polysilicon producer Tongwei said that it plans to invest 28 billion yuan to build a factory in northern China. This is the company's fourth project with an investment scale of more than 10 billion yuan this year.
According to the announcement on the 26th, the Chengdu-based company signed an agreement with the city of Ordos** in Inner Mongolia to build industrial silicon and high-purity crystalline silicon production projects in two phases.
According to the report, the project plans to produce 500,000 tons of industrial silicon and 400,000 tons of high-purity crystalline silicon per year.
Tongwei said that the first phase of the project will build 200,000 tons of industrial silicon and 200,000 tons of high-purity crystalline silicon production capacity, and strive to be completed and put into operation by the end of December 2025. High-purity crystalline silicon is used to make solar panels.
Tongwei said that it is expected that the investment in the construction of new projects will not have a significant impact on the company's operating income and net profit in 2023 and 2024.
Tongwei said in the announcement: "The investment in this project will help the company make full use of the rich natural resources and perfect photovoltaic industry chain advantages of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and further consolidate the company's position as a world-class leading enterprise in the field of high-purity crystalline silicon business." ”
Tongwei** global PV installed capacity demand will grow by 20% in 2024, mainly driven by strong demand in the Middle East and Africa.
On December 7, workers of Inner Mongolia Yili New Energy in Dongsheng District, Ordos City worked in the production workshop. In recent years, the local government has vigorously developed the new energy materials industry and accelerated the layout of silicon industry clusters focusing on photovoltaic silicon.
