Israel and Palestine, two geographically adjacent regions with deep historical ties, are often at odds for a variety of reasons. In recent days, the Israeli military resumed its heavy bombardment of the Gaza Strip, killing at least 700 Palestinians. The news was shocking, and innocent lives were once again fallen victim to war.
Since the end of the temporary ceasefire on 1 December, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have not stopped. The Israeli army said it had attacked more than 400 Hamas targets over the past weekend and carried out a massive bombardment of Khan Younis, Gaza's second-largest city. This ongoing conflict has caused great panic and distress to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. They feel nowhere to go, locked in areas bordering Israel and Egypt, unable to escape the ravages of war.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are under enormous pressure to survive. On 7 October, Hamas and other militants launched an attack in southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians. The incident sparked a massive Israeli military operation that resulted in more innocent lives**. In the early days of the war, Israel ordered civilians to leave the north, and as a result, many were forced to crowd in the south. At present, heavy bombardment is reported in Khan Younis and the southern city of Rafah, as well as in parts of the north, which have been the focus of intense Israeli air and ground offensives.
In response to this endless conflict, the international community has universally called on both sides to exercise restraint and to resolve the dispute through dialogue and negotiation. However, the Israeli military does not seem to have heard this cry and continues to carry out heavy attacks on the Gaza Strip. This disregard for international and humanitarian concern is deeply worrisome.
As a member of the international community, I believe it is incumbent upon us to pay attention to and call for an end to this conflict. Innocent civilians should not be victims of war, but should live in peace, security and dignity. There are no winners in conflicts, and the underlying problems cannot be resolved through violence and military means. A long-term and stable peace can be achieved only through peaceful negotiations and compromise.
It is hoped that the international community will press Israel to immediately stop its attacks on the Gaza Strip so that innocent civilians will no longer fall victim to war. At the same time, it is hoped that the Palestinian and Israeli sides will be able to resume the peace process and resolve their disputes through dialogue and negotiation. After all, peace is the only way to achieve common prosperity and development.
Finally, may the tragedy never happen again!Hopefully, we will see a Middle East region of peace, understanding and tolerance, where innocent lives can live in peace.
