Toyota Motor Corporation announced today its strategy for its European operations. Toyota says it plans to launch six battery-electric vehicle models in Europe by 2026, with the goal of making such vehicles account for more than 20 percent of its new car sales in the European market.
Toyota said it is taking action to accelerate electric vehicle production in Europe. In addition to the four electric vehicles already sold or in development in Europe, the company plans to launch two new models in 2024 and 2025, including an urban SUV concept and a sports crossover.
Toyota Motor said in a statement that it expects to sell more than 250,000 battery-powered vehicles annually in the European market by 2026.
Toyota's global sales target is to reach 1.5 million electric vehicles annually by 2026. In the first 10 months of this year, Toyota sold about 8.5 million vehicles worldwide, including sales of the luxury brand Lexus, of which electric vehicles accounted for 1%.
By the end of 2026, the company aims to expand the range of electric vehicles (EVs) and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) to more than 15 under the Toyota brand alone.
IT House noted that Toyota currently has 5 EV and 1 FCV model under the brand, and 2 EV models from the premium brand "Lexus". Lexus plans to be fully electrified by the end of 2035, but will bring it forward to 2030 if European market conditions allow.
In addition, Toyota aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the end of 2040 with regard to greenhouse gas emissions generated through its business activities such as production and logistics.
