Barcelona are reportedly willing to let go of Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto when their summer contracts expire. Alonso joined Barcelona from Chelsea in 2022 and was a key player in Barcelona's La Liga title last season. However, the 32-year-old has only played 160 minutes in the league this season and has been dropped. Similarly, right-back Roberto's playing time is limited.
Despite scoring two goals in his most recent game, he had few chances. Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in signing both players. Alonso and Roberto's contracts expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, with Barcelona reporting no plans to renew them. Although Atletico Madrid had previously expressed interest in Alonso, the defender decided to stay at Barcelona.
As for Roberto, a potential extension of his contract could involve salary cuts, although he is currently the club's lowest-paid first-team player. This season, Barcelona have struggled to defend their La Liga title and are currently fourth in the league, seven points behind Real Madrid and Girona. After the winter break, Barcelona will play Las Palmas on January 4. Las Palmas have done well in their first return to the top flight this season.
