Have you ever been confused about how to evolve inkay? In the early game, evolution revolved around trading, but as generations changed, new ways to break down the fourth wall emerged. Inkay was one of the trickiest ways to evolve when it came out in 3DS, but now it's back with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Indigo Disk. We no longer use dual-screen systems, so the old evolutionary approach needs to be adapted for new hardware. Whether you know the old methods or not, here's the secret you Pokédex won't tell you about how to evolve Inkay into Malamar.
If you have Inkay on 3DS, you may remember that the evolution method involves upgrading it to level 30 and then inverting the host during the upgrade. The same works for indigo disks, but slightly tweaked to fit the switch.
First, get an inkay and upgrade it to level 30, just like usual. Inkays are common in the DLA's coastal biome, so you don't need to look too long to come across them. Before upgrading, make sure you take the Switch out in TV mode and turn off all other controllers connected to the console. You must use the official joy-con connected to the host.
When your inkay starts to level up, rotate it upside down until the animation is complete. You should have a new malamar. If anything goes wrong, you can try again in battle or after giving it a rare candy.
Along the way, you may discover new pokémon appearing in your adventures that you may never have encountered before. This is exactly what makes this evolutionary approach so unique – it opens hidden passages for new pokémon to enter your ranks. Ready to explore this whole new world of evolution?
